Priory Bosses Slam Britain’s Got Talent Team

The Britain’s Got Talent team has come under attack, this time from staff at The Priory who are treating Susan Boyle.
Boyle was admitted to the clinic on Sunday night after allegedly suffering a mental breakdown.
Professor Chris Thompson, chief medical officer of The Priory group, said TV bosses failed to provide Susan with proper psychological care to help her cope with her newfound fame.
He told The Daily Mail: ‘I would want to know that people being exposed to such pressures are actually looked after.
‘I think I know what TV companies would say – they would say “these people are willing volunteers…”
‘The fact that there is consent between the TV company and contestant does not prevent the TV company having a duty of care once that consent has been given.’
Britain’s Got Talent producer Talkback Thames last night admitted that contestants do not face psychological testing before appearing on the show.
A spokesman said: ‘Compared to something like Big Brother, where you are looking at people going into a house for three months, the people on Britain’s Got Talent have three or four performances maximum and spend only seven to ten days in a hotel for the semi-finals and finals.
‘It is a very different scenario. But because of the level of media attention and the speed with which it became a global phenomenon, we will be reviewing all of our policies in relation to psychological treatment.’

It’s one thing to slam a show for not doing the right thing, but I must say reality tv has been with us for a long time now, couldn’t the therapists and Dr’s at this clinic have offered their services to the programme.
Mutually offering counselling sessions that may be useful to some members might just save them from getting negative press and being worn out by exhaustion. Techniques and strategies of coping would be very useful to more than a handful of people.
