Royal Marines’ The Highway Men make it through but are later forced to pull out of Britain’s Got Talent 2011

The Highway men caused quite the revolt on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent show.

The nine strong Royal Marines Service band took to the stage and wowed the audience with their drumming act, however the judges weren’t so convinced.

Michael McIntyre said they ‘bored’ him at times, while Amanda Holden added:

Lots of it was exciting and then there were some bits where I wanted it to end. Then I think if you went through to the next round it’s going to be pretty much the same thing.

However, after they got two nos from both dissenting panellists (and a yes from David Hasselhoff) Ant and Dec took to the stage and pleaded with the judges to change their mind. The crowd cheered and begged too and eventually the band made it through.

However, it was recently revealed in The Sun that just days before the band were due to travel to London, to find out whether or not they would be performing on the live ITV semi finals, they were forced to pull out as some of their members were called in to cover for military colleagues on duty at the Royal Wedding.

Leader Stuart Warmington, 34, said: “We’re all active soldiers. One of the bands was sent to Afghanistan and others are playing at the wedding so we were needed for operational duty.”

Gutted I didn’t see them in the qualifying stage last night. They were good enough to make an impression for me to remember them and come looking on the web to find out why they weren’t there.

If they are good enough to serve, protect and give their lives for queen and country….Then they are more than good enough to perform in front of queen and country

Hmmmm I wonder if the top secret drum corp from Switzerland
would be interested to know that they are being blatantly ripped off.

Maybe Wills and Kate could give them a special slot in the variety performance…..
