A salsa dancing 79 year old is being tipped as favourite to win Britain’s Got Talent this year already, before the series has even begun, we can reveal this morning.
Paddy Jones tried out for the judges – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon – earlier this year and apparently the panel were blown away by her nimble moves and limber pensioner body.
The grandma is partnered with Nico Espinosa, who is just 40 years old, and the pair can flip and spin like people half their age it’s said. They’re no strangers to TV either and in 2009 the couple won the Spanish version of BGT, going on to compete in the Argentinian version of Strictly Come Dancing in 2010.
Amanda Holden was so amazed by their high energy routine that she chose Paddy and Nico as her Golden Buzzer act, which means the pair definitely have a place in the live rounds. The mum of two later insisted that the dancers have the potential to make it all the way to the final three.
Jones has been dancing since she was a young child, but only too up the salsa when she turned 60, after her husband passed away.
She was living in Spain when her husband died of cancer and later joined Nico’s dance academy. Within the year she was working as his dance partner.
Simon Cowell doesn’t love the act as much as his fellow judge it seems and he buzzed the pair off the stage within the first 20 seconds of their routine. Stephen Mulhern – who fronts Britain’s Got More Talent – told The Sun that the music mogul waded in before the routine reached it’s best bit though.
It was reported in 2011 that Paddy was hanging up her dancing shoes, after being dumped by her dance partner, following an upset on the Argentinian dance show, but clearly the pair patched up their differences.
