Susan Boyle In Priory After Mental Breakdown

The media have a lot to answer for today, as Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle checked in to The Priory after suffering a mental/emotional breakdown.

The same people who proclaimed Susan as being the best thing to come out of Britain in years, brought her back to earth with a bump last week as they hailed her as ignorant, rude and brattish.

Susan who has suffered from learning difficulties from birth, crumbled under the pressure and anyone who watched Saturday night’s BGT final will have seen a much more subdued Susan compared to her first audition.

It seems that last night it all got too much for Susan and police were called to her hotel where her doctors were waiting to move her to The Priory to help her recover from her exhaustion.

TalkbackThames said the 48-year-old had been left “exhausted and emotionally drained” after Saturday’s show in which she was beaten by dance act Diversity.

“Susan has been seen by her private GP (general practitioner), who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery. We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery,” TalkbackThames said in a statement.

London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers had been called to a central London hotel and accompanied a woman to a clinic by ambulance, but didn’t name the woman.

“We were called at about 18:00 on Sunday to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the mental health act. She was taken voluntary by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance,” the police said in a statement.

A source from Susan’s hotel told The Sun:

“She’d been at the hotel for a few days, but since Saturday’s final had been acting strangely, causing a bit of a stir.

“The staff were concerned – something wasn’t right.

“When the paramedics and police arrived she agreed to go voluntarily. She didn’t make a fuss. The paramedics calmly took her out through the main lobby and into the waiting ambulance.

“It was all done very calmly. They didn’t want to stress or upset her. She didn’t look well – she looked lost, not all there.”

This occurrence throws up many questions about Britain’s Got Talent and the safeguards it puts in place for its contestants. Many people call the show exploitative and I bet Cowell and Co will have a busy week ahead trying to minimise the damage to their brand and trying to make sure the same thing can’t happen again in future series.

It’s a shame and hope she gets well soon. This shows that
sometimes fame is not worth it.
I think her family need to take some responsibility as well,
they know her best and should have known whether she was
emotionally stable enough to cope with the pressure. In fact
one of the brothers was pushing for Simon to let her go to
America and perform and release an album before the show as
she was losing the chance to make millions. Did he know how
fragile she was and that she would struggle to cope with the
show but was more interested in making money out of her, thats
why he wanted to do it straight away. For me personally its
just the BGT that have taken advantage of her but family as well.
