Since reaching the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2008, and signing their seven figure record deal courtesy of music mogul Simon Cowell, pop goddesses and electric string quartet ESCALA have been on a mission. A mission to break down the barriers of classical music; to inject new, pop energy into a genre so often ignored by contemporary mainstream and to take the world along for the ride! A year later as they release their self-titled debut album, the ladies are about to utter the immortal words…’mission accomplished’.

Unreality TV have managed to get out hands on five copies of the album, so if you fancy winning one then just send us your email address here. It’s as simple as that!

Escala’s self titled debut album is an eclectic, sexy and genre defying collection. Featuring the girls’ interpretations of a host of well known pop classics (with some surprises along the way) the album sits as happily alongside the sounds of Kylie Minogue or Girls Aloud as it does Vivaldi and Bach. The group is passionate about using classical string instruments in a modern and thrilling fashion, especially if it encourages children to embrace learning to play. “It is so important to show children that it can be cool.” says band member Chantal. “It works! After the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, I went back to the school where I taught and so many girls and boys, who had seen us on television, came up to me and said how they really wanted to learn viola and would I teach them.”

The album is perhaps best showcased by the quartet’s version of Children, originally recorded by Italian DJ Robert Miles. Emotive, rousing and likely to enduce tears, the song’s pulsating electronic groove provides the perfect soundtrack to a Friday night. Kashmir, the girls’ interpretation of the Led Zeppelin classic, provides the album’s most unexpected collaboration. After hearing about ESCALA from Simon Cowell at Elton John’s Oscars party, ex Guns N’ Roses icon Slash became enchanted, immediately agreeing to add his spine-tingling guitar riffs to the track. The result is a rock anthem of epic proportions and a song member Tasya is particularly pleased with, “It’s finally given me credibility with my brother!Sisters aren’t often considered cool by their brothers but he’s delighted he can boast that I’ve worked with a rock god!”
