Welcome to Unreality TV’s live blog of the seventh X Factor live show.
And it’s Take That week! So, having watched that little bit of pre-recorded performance from the guys, we’re all ready to hear some classic pop tunes! First up, its…
Alexandra opens the show tonight with a version of Relight My Fire. She’s looking hot and her version isn’t just a faithful copy of the original. Alex dances, struts confidently around the stage and gives a true diva performance. The judges are looking pretty impressed.
Louis: I loved the way that you didn’t just copy the original. I want you in the final. Dannii: You didn’t look like you warmed up until halfway through. Simon: I don’t think you’ve had enough credit for what a good performer you are. I just hope that people don’t think you’re safe. That was one of the best versions of that song I’ve ever heard. Cheryl: Alexandra, you are on fire tonight!
Louis interrupted Simon at one point during his comments to say that Alexandra is the best singer on X Factor since Leona Lewis. What do you think? Do they want to keep Alex in for the final?
That sexy Spaniard Ruth is next up next with her version of Love Ain’t Here Anymore. My biggest criticism of Ruth is her diction - when she’s singing softly as she does at the start of this song, it’s very hard to understand what she’s saying. However, it does get better, and she manages to turn up the heat with an impressive vocal toward the end.
And did I mention, she looks yummy in that black dress?
That was another powerhouse performance. I can’t fault you at all. Cheryl: I just find you absolutely inspirational. Simon: I thought this was absolutely sensational. Your best performance to date by a mile.
Isn’t it funny when JLS are in the VT clips, they’re looking modern and funky, but when Louis and the stylists get their hands on them they look like they’re wearing Westlife’s cast-offs?
Another smooth performance from the boyband.
Dannii: I know there were a lot of song changes for you this week. I know you struggled a bit at the start, but you got into your stride by the end. Cheryl: I missed a bit of the chemistry between you guys tonight. Vocally that was the best performance you’ve ever done. Simon: You absolutely pulled it together, you looked like a group that’s been together for a long time. I hope you’ve done enough to get through to next week. Louis: I totally believe in the boys, and I think you’re the first band who could win X Factor.
Louis and Dannii break into a bit of a slanging match about song choices, with Louis accusing her of stealing Rule The World for her acts.
Whoa - what was all that about? Dannii looked in tears at the start of this part of the show, and wasn’t even able to announce Rachel. That was weird and slightly upsetting! Louis must be on the warpath for those two tonight, because he complains in the VT that Rachel has absolutely no likeability. Ouch.
Rachel’s singing Rule The World, which isn’t the type of song you’d expect to work with her voice, but she’s remarkably good. It’s a nice arrangement, and Rachel’s good for the most part, although she does get quite shouty in places.
Louis: Great song choice. You looked happy tonight, which is really good. I think you’ve got a lot of soul. Cheryl: It’s nice to hear that softer side to your voice. I think you’re a soul singer, and I think that’s what you need to do more of in the competition. Simon: Other than the insane acrobatics, I thought it was a very good performance. Dannii: It was an amazing performance, I would never ever steal anyone else’s song.
Unbelievably, Rachel is mouthing “You alright?” to Dannii from the stage - Dannii is obviously really upset about the song stealing accusations.
Here comes our favourite. We’re all hoping that Diana gets back on form this week. Diana’s doing Patience, a fairly recent Take That song, and Gary Barlow is already hoping to poach her for his own new label!
She sounds a little drowned out in the mix tonight, and I wonder if she can hear herself. It starts off a bit weak in my opinion, but gets better toward the end. However, at this stage of the game, it looks like Alexandra might have overtaken Diana in the Under 25 girls category.
Louis: You made it your own, you didn’t just copy the original. Dannii: You looked the best you’ve ever looked this week. Simon: There were some kind of shaky moments in the song, but that’s what made it great. I absolutely adore you, I think you were given an impossible song tonight. Cheryl: I’m so glad that you’re back and that you’ve got your confidence back.
Eoghan is taking on one of Take That’s biggest songs this week - Never Forget. Oooh, he’s really working those camera angles tonight, ladies and gentlemen. He gets drowned out a little during the chorus by the choir - are they trying to mask those weak points? But no, he finishes brilliantly.
Louis: You have no fear, you’ve got everything going for you. You’re like FedEx - you always deliver. Dannii: Best performance of the night. Cheryl: A great close to the show. Simon: It was one of the best performance of the night - it was a brilliant choice of song, and most importantly it was believable. Tonight you proved you’re a pop star.
