As fans of Celebrity Big Brother will know, last night, camp comic Julian Clary won this summer’s series, while Coleen Nolan became runner-up, and Martin Kemp left the house in third place.

For me, it was my Dream Team line-up for the final three, and if any one of those three had won, I’d have been pleased, but I have to say, I found Julian’s reaction to winning really touching…

Throughout the series, Julian has been very quiet, reserved and dignified, and as my Unreality colleague Daniel has pointed out, he battled his own demons – again, with a quite grace and poise – to go into the house in the first place, which makes his conduct while there even more admirable.

I should also add though that initially, I did feel somewhat disappointed that we weren’t treated to more of Julian’s trademark acerbic and rapier wit, but that said, within a very short time, I began to feel a bit ashamed of myself for that. After all, the man’s not a performing seal and he wasn’t on stage…

But what we did see of Julian made me an even more devoted fan because we saw compassion, endless patience, the ability to rise above negativity and bitching, and above all, an arguably vulnerable man who, when he cares, cares deeply.

I must also admit that when Brian revealed that Julian was the CBB winner, and he instantly burst into tears, so did I. And in fact, Julian pulled himself together a good deal faster than I did, because I was still sniveling during his interview with Brian.

So all in all, I’m very, very glad he won. Are you?
