Celebrity Big Brother: Coolio Uses The N***** Word

US rap star Coolio used the N***** word yesterday morning during a conversation with Ben Adams but surprisingly the show bosses did not discipline him.
The show is no stranger to scandal and the last series of 2007 will always be remembered for the racial controversy between Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty. Then the normal summer series in 2007 saw Emily Parr being evicted after she also used the N word in conversation with Charley Uchea.
Last night a TV insider told The Sun: “It’s as if Channel 4 and Endemol have learnt no lessons from all the previous incidents of racism and appalling behaviour on Big Brother.
“If he’s allowed to use that word without any sort of reprimand, what’s next? It’s absolutely disgusting. What if another housemate uses this kind of language.”
A Channel 4 source said that because none of the other housemates were offended by Coolio’s comments they had no plans to take action against him.
A spokeswoman confirmed yesterday: “At around 9.20am today, Coolio recounted a vivid dream he experienced overnight in which he had been involved in a fight.
“Coolio used the N-word in his descriptive retelling to Ben. Coolio described how his imaginary adversary called Coolio ‘Oh n****r’.
“This was again immediately flagged to senior production staff at Endemol and C4.
“After reviewing the footage, where Ben clearly took no offensive from the use of the word, no other housemates heard the word, the footage was not broadcast to cause offence to viewers and the context that Coolio used the word, no further action was taken.
“As always constant monitoring of any unacceptable language by any housemate is on going and Big Brother is always prepared to remind all housemates of these rules.”

Suprise suprise black guy uses the n word and theres nothing said, white guy had done the same he’d be ostracised and hung out to dry even if there wasnt any offence!
As a black guy, I hate this double standard on use of the N-Word. Either it’s ok or it’s not.
Personally, I find it funny when people get all up in arms over it.
Ah typical a black guy using the word nigger is fine but if it had been a white guy all hell would have broken loose. Coolio will be aloud to say white guy and no one will pick up on it!! If you ask me its gone to far that way and white people are being pushed aside!!!
GET COOLIO OUT!
i dont find it offensive coz i have black people in my family and its just the way they speak its like if a white boy called anuva white boy sank like whitie or summen people wouldnt find it offensive coz its juist there normal talk. its the way he use to speaking init. its like black people call each other the n word so it dont matter its not like he said it out of anger or to be horrible isit. lol get a grip of yourselves! x jade from kent
charlie, do you feel better now that you got to type the word? everyone else is saying ‘N word’ or ‘that word’, but not you mate… you just had to write it out, eh? anyway, yes there is a double standard with that word, i personally don’t like to hear it from black or white nor do i care for reading it in posts. however, i do agree with channel 4’s decision since it would appear coolio’s usage of the word wasn’t directed towards any one person, it wasn’t used in anger, malice nor jest. one thing i do find amusing is the general lack of understanding from people like Sam and Charlie who think it is unfair that apparently blacks can use the word and whites cannot. is this because you want to use the word as well?
I couldn’t agree with you more Trace. I can only assume Sam and Charlie are not “black” (as am I).. They are upset because its ‘unfair’, but they really don’t understand that its the history surrounding the word that brings up emotionality. I just hope that that is the reason why most “black” people feel like I shouldn’t use that word?
this is a response to charlie
i think we black people deserve to call you white guys some names after over 200 hundred years of racism from you lot, what u mean white people gettin pushed aside.
without coolio or verne or jackson not much people would be watchin this nearly everyone i know including have started to watch this show because of coolio, he the main reason its fun watchin this and it will be boring without him, if coolio comes out, then ill asure you that at that very moment big brother will lose alot of viewers
of course theres double standards on that word you idiots! its because theres history behind it. black ppl are allowed to call eachother it because it because it dates back to slavery where the WHITE slave drivers would use it to call the BLACK slaves hence it bein offensive when a white person uses it. as far as im concerned u cant throw coolio out for using the word but its right that he is given a warning about it. And yes if a white person used it, they should be chucked out immedietly, its unacceptable in that context.
This constant debate is so tiring.
I’m a black guy from brooklyn married to a white girl from wisconsin.
I use the word nigger as in “this nigger pissed me off” or thats my homeboy my nigga over there”
she used to hate it when i said it but I just thought it was so funny she that she would get upset. Now married 10 years , If i piss her off i may hear a nigga please . but the bottem lin is who cares. so many more important things to focus on …move on already
personally I think that if anyone uses it maliciously it should be unacceptable. And just remember just because some people are the same race it doesn’t mean they share the same views and that they should be penalized for their ancestors mistakes. Just because slave drivers used the n word it doesn’t other people mean it in the same way or should be disallowed to say it. Just because one person means it as a terrible insult it doesn’t mean everyone else does
The fact is its derogatory, it always has been and it always will be. It is just a shame that the term has been wrongly adopted by african-americans to express many different feelings etc..
It wouldn’t be a problem if it was simply part of the western worlds history that people wanted to dig up again, but now it is ingrained into our culture, and when mixed up with the history, current awareness of racism and its widespread use amongst “blacks” it makes a very sticky scenario. In no way am I reversing the blame, but.. thats what I think. It is a terribly pathetic situation for both “blacks” and “whites” to be in, and a strange one as well!
