It has today been confirmed that the current series of Celebrity Big Brother has been EXTENDED and will now finish at a later date.
Yesterday, rumours began to circulate that the current series of Celebrity Big Brother had been extended due to the high ratings the show has seen since it launched earlier this month, however, the news has now been confirmed.
Channel 5 has told us this morning that the Live Finale will now take place on Tuesday, January 28 as opposed to January 24, in part due to the ratings success.
This is the first time that we’ve seen a reality TV show extended from its original finale date whilst on air. However, we’re not sure how this will work in terms of contracts, we believe that there is a clause in the Housemates’ contracts which states that they must be available for so many days after the series comes to an end. This subsequently makes room for an extension – not that we’ve ever seen one before.
The current series of Celebrity Big Brother has definitely seen its ups and downs and we’re only on Day 13. There’s been arguments, grumpy housemates (ahem, Jim Davidson), rule breakers (Luisa Zissman, I’m looking at you) and a whole host of relationship drama. Not to mention the homophobic remarks made by Evander Holyfield and Dappy has also been reprimanded for his comments of a similar nature.
Within the first 24 hours in the house, Blue member Lee Ryan managed to get it on with Casey Batchelor. Admittedly, the pair were handcuffed together, but it didn’t mean they had to go locking lips. However, when the handcuffs were removed, the gloves came off as Lee dropped Casey like a bag of hot coal and moved on to the American in the house, Jasmine Waltz. Since then, Lee and Jasmine have been inseparable.
Not only that, the first shopping task which involved a UFO landing in the Big Brother garden was also hailed a success and personally, I thought it was one of the better shopping tasks we’ve seen in a long while.
Whilst the housemates aren’t overly famous and there’s a few names not everyone would know, the show has been a success so far and we’ve got a good group of housemates and the public also think so as the ratings have been brilliant thus far this series.
The series has averaged 2.48m viewers so far in terms of overnight ratings, which is a rise of around 190,000 on last January’s series of the show.
The extension will now make Celebrity Big Brother 13 the second-longest series of the spin-off show as CBB5 also lasted 26 days. CBB7 currently stands as the longest with a 27 day run, which was the last CBB to air on Channel 4.
Celebrity Big Brother 2014 continues this evening at 9pm in which Luisa Zissman, Jim Davidson, Jasmine Waltz or Liz Jones will be given the boot.
