Ray Quinn returned to Dancing On Ice tonight, more or less defending the trophy that he seems a dead cert to lift.
The actor beat Suzanne Shaw in last week’s duel and everyone who’s anyone is predicting that he already has the win in the bag and is practically unbeatable in the competition.
The bookies are cutting his odds by the week and even the show’s judges are admitting that he’s the best by far, so tonight Ray was under pressure to maintain his lead.
He was under even more pressure as he watched Torvill and Dean in rehearsals earlier today and tweeted:
“😮@torvillanddean doing there skate! wow I have absolute admiration for these two! Such grace and power! There abilities go above and beyond.”
Ray rocked a mullet for tonight’s 80s style show and revealed beforehand that his routine would contain more jumps than any that has ever been performed on the ITV show to date.
He’s had plenty of injuries as a result and posted:
“Oh and proper stacked it the other day! my right arse cheek is killing. #blackandblue #whiplash #DOI”
Tonight Quinn and his partner Maria skated to the retro hit Jump and jump they did. Our hearts were in our mouths for the whole two minutes but luckily no one took a spill. Phew!
Ray and Maria scored 39.5.
ASHLEY ROBERTS: You are so good, you are jumping and flying and swinging and changing ways.
KAREN BARBER: It is still looking promising for you out there. It was amazing. Never have we had so much content, changes of direction, a little of the edge work is a little scratchy but I thought it was amazing.
JASON GARDINER: What I love about you Ray is that now you are blurring the lines between the pro and the celeb. I can’t fault you, it is delivered with such panache. Everything you do is so awe inspiring. I forget you are on ice.
NICKY SLATER: I think if I had been here from the start of the series I might have been warmed up to a ten but I saw six jumps here, it was a little scratchy and it could have been faster. The last two jumps in particular that was really strong. It was a fantastic performance but it wasn’t perfect yet.
