Dancing on Ice 2014: No thawing between judges Karen Barber and Jason Gardiner three years after their row!
Fans of Dancing on Ice will no doubt remember that in 2011, judges Karen Barber and Jason Gardiner fell out somewhat spectacularly after acerbic and outspoken Jason’s critique of Johnson Beharry’s performance on the show upset Karen…
After she pointed out that she didn’t approve of what Jason had had to say, he retorted, “If your opinions still mattered you’d be on the panel.”
A tearful Karen hit back with, “Jason, you really are so offensive…
“You bring to this panel so little, you really do.”
At the time, around 2,000 viewers complained to telly watchdog Ofcom, having branded Jason’s remarks as “vile,” and accusing him of being “a mean bully.”
To the Daily Mail, an ITV source confirmed that Jason had been reprimanded by the show’s producers over the row, and the paper added that he had “effectively been given a warning about his conduct.”
A spokesman for the show added, “The producers of Dancing on Ice have made it clear to Jason that this type of comment is unacceptable.
“Jason is sorry for his behaviour and any offence caused to Karen.”
So, with now some three years worth of water under the bridge, one might think that relations between the pair had improved, but evidently not.
Speaking to the Mirror, and when asked if things had thawed between herself and Jason, Karen said, “What do you think?”
She added, “We are just doing our job.”
Fellow judge Robin Cousins added, “It’s not about friendship, it’s about doing your job.
“You don’t have to like the people you are with but you have to respect what they do.”
After the infamous row, Jason said, “The producers spoke to me about Karen coming back, I thought it was a brilliant idea.
“I mean Karen started off as a judge on the panel with me from day one then she was sort of moved on to a kitchen stool off the side, which was a bit weird.”
And when asked if “her opinion mattered” now, he candidly replied, “No, but she has one and it’s better that she has it on the panel than on the kitchen stool off to the side.”
Dang, I do love how utterly catty he is! Don’t you?
Dancing on Ice returns for a final series tomorrow at 6.15pm on ITV, but for now, here’s a reminder of that rather epic onscreen row…
