Dancing On Ice 2007: Profile Of Kay Burley
Kay Burley (born 1961) is a British television newscaster. She currently anchors the Lunchtime Live programme on Sky News, a 24-hour news channel based in the UK and broadcast around the world. Sky News is part of the British Sky Broadcasting corp., previously fully, now partially owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation. During the summer of 2006 she will appear on Five’s news bulletins.
Born in Wigan, Burley began her media career at the tabloid Sunday Mirror before graduating to the small screen as a newscaster on the now defunct TV-AM network in the mid-80’s. She moved to the then fledgling Sky News in 1988 and has since become one of the most recognizable figures in British satellite news broadcasting. Among many noteworthy assignments she was the face of Sky News coverage from the disaster zone after the S.E. Asian tsunami in 2004-2005 and was prominent in the Sky coverage of the 2005 General Election.
Burley received some notoriety during Sky News’ coverage of the September 11 attacks when she said, “If you’re just joining us, the entire eastern seaboard of the United States has been decimated by a terrorist attack.”
A vivacious redhead, Burley is generally considered a sex symbol, having been voted What Satellite TV magazines’ “Most Desirable Woman on TV” for three consecutive years as well as appearing in countless other “sexiest women”/”sexiest presenter” lists and she remains popular with the male audience despite there being no shortage of younger female news presenters. Even so, Kay has not capitalised on her sex appeal much, instead keeping a much more reserved image.
Kay is also known for presenting news coverage every Christmas morning on Sky News (a tradition she has upheld for the last 16 years).
Kay is an avid Arsenal fan. She is divorced and has one son, Alexander (b.1993). Recently she has been dating Sun Newspaper deputy political editor George Pascoe-Watson.
Kay has been confirmed as a contestant for the second series of the hit ITV reality show Dancing On Ice begining January 20th.
It has been reported that there has been tension between Burley and Ulrika Jonsson. Both are taking part in the 2nd series of dancing on ice. Jonsson used to work for Burley. Kay recently split from her partner and is now dating colleague Charlie Thomas.
