Dancing On Ice 2012: Surprise twist – Ultimate Skills Test, solo skate off and double elimination!

There has been more than one shock on Dancing on Ice this evening and after an action packed show, which included Jennifer Ellison slicing her own head, with her ice skate blade, Phillip Schofield had another announcement for the stars.

After the elimination of 64 year old fitness guru Rosemary Conley, the host revealed that there would be a bit of a surprise for the surviving celebrities next week….it’s Ultimate Skills Test week….with a difference.

The Silver Fox explained:

Next week, it’s the return of the Ultimate Skills Test but this time it is even more brutal. Our stars will be tested to their very limits, on their pure skating ability. If they fail to make the grade, they will find themselves in the toughest skate off in Dancing On Ice history because, they will be doing it alone!

As part of the test and subsequent solo routine, each celebrity must take to the ice solo and perform a routine, comprised of 23 separate skills. These will include:

Forward crossovers, a spiral, mohawks, backward crossovers, a spin, a waltz jump and a stop.

After the announcement, Christopher Dean explained why the show crew felt it was necessary to step things up a level saying:

This is going to be a test, it’s all about the skating skills. They have to do it alone, we are really upping the ante and it’s time to sort out the skaters… those that can and those that can’t.

Jayne Torvill added:

It is week seven so we need to see our celebrities doing these skills and if they can’t, they’ll get left behind.

The official Dancing On Ice Twitter account then revealed that as if all that isn’t enough, three stars will face the skate off and in the end, two will be sent home. They tweeted:

OMG!!! Three stars in next week’s skate off, they’re skating alone… and two contestants will leave. #TWISTAGOGO

So who do you think will struggle with the new theme and who may find themselves in danger during the results show?

THERE WERE SOME GREAT PERFORMANCES TONIGHT, BUT THE SCORING WAS A BIT ERRATIC TO SAY THE LEAST. PEOPLE WHO DID FAR LESS SOLO SKATING ETC, RECEIVED HIGHER SCORES THAN SOMEONE WHO WAS CLEARLY PUTTING MORE OF THIS INTO THEIR ROUTINE & WAS BETTER OVERALL.

It’s not just about the skating… It’s about the whole performance – emotion, lines, connection with partner etc…
