Dancing On Ice pro-skater Brianne Delcourt has revealed that she’s not surprised that Corrie star Samia Ghadie and her fellow professional skater Sylvain Longchambon have started a romance – allegedly – as she says in order for the on-screen performances to be “realistic” there has to be some real backstage chemistry.
Brianne – who is of course paired up with former EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas this year – said, “A lot of the dances are romantic or based on sexual chemistry so naturally you have to have that bond or spark there to make it realistic.”
But of Samia and Sylvain, Brianne told the Daily Star, “It’s not really my place to say what’s going on with Sylvain and Samia.
“But he is my professional partner in real life and he is totally a loveable character so I can see why people fall for him.
“I think Samia is great, too, and they’ve become very good friends.”
Canadian-born Brianne added, “Relationships do often come out of the show. You form a bond with someone and you are not only spending 24/7 with them, you are competing as a team together so you have to get on.
“You are also spending a lot of time off the ice together so it’s natural that people will get together sometimes.
“The nature of the dances encourages it too. You have to know your partner.
“It’s natural for a close friendship to sometimes lead to other things. You can’t skate for three hours and then just say goodbye.
“It’s really important to get on with your partner. To have the bond, faith and trust in each other is paramount.
“You spend so much time together off the ice as well as on because you have to build that friendship.
“It really counts when you are being judged on the night and can enhance your performance.”
And of rumours that Matt’s girlfriend Shona McGarty – who plays Whitney Dean on EastEnders – was jealous of her close bond with Matt, Brianne said, “Shona did ask to meet me and everything is fine now…
“She’s wicked and we’ve become friends. They are well suited to each other.
“If my boyfriend was doing a show and putting his hands all over another female I would be jealous.”
And of Matt, Brianne remarked, “Matty is my boy. He is wicked. As soon as we met we clicked over the Canadian thing as his dad is from there too.
“We are always laughing and having a fun time. I want to adopt him as my little brother.
“I watch EastEnders when I am over here, though I wouldn’t say I’m hooked.”
Dancing On Ice continues on ITV1 on Sunday at 6.15pm, but for now, here’s a look at Matt and Brianne on the show…
