Dancing On Ice 2013: Gareth Thomas is splashing out £300,000 to buy his own ice rink!
Dancing On Ice star Gareth Thomas, who was of course saved last night – while Oona King left the show after a dramatic skate-off – is such a fan of ice skating that he’s planning to buy his own ice rink!
At a cost of £300,000, rugby star Gareth wants the new ‘toy’ so that he can carry on skating after the show’s over.
A friend of Gareth’s told TV Biz, “The money he’s willing to put in will buy a good-sized one that people would pay to use…
“But he really wants to use it for himself and friends. He wants it just for the joy of keeping up the sport.”
The paper adds, “Gareth had been desperate to replace the ‘buzz’ he got from playing rugby since he retired in 2011, the pal said.”
And evidently, he’s getting that “buzz” from ice skating, and the sparkly outfits he gets to wear on DOI!
Of his outfits, Gareth recently said, “I’m learning to embrace the sparkles.
“The wardrobe department showed me the outfits and I thought, ‘That’s not really me’.
“But when you get into it, you understand the whole performance is a show and the outfits become part of it.
“You get over it.”
And he certainly has got over it, and is consistently wowing the DOI judges. Here’s his performance in last night’s dramatic skate-off…
