Gareth Thomas may be elated to have survived the Dancing On Ice elimination last night but the rugby star still faces a difficult week ahead.
Phillip Schofield revealed last night that the remaining contestants would take on a flying challenge on the semi final show, meaning that Gareth, Luke Campbell, Beth Tweddle and Matt Lapinskas would have to get to grips with working on a high wire, suspended above the ice rink.
Gareth has been having more problems than his fellow hopefuls in rehearsals though and it’s been revealed that he can’t stop puking during his practice sessions.
His routine is said to be incredibly fast, and involves plenty of swooping and spinning and all that motion is going for Thomas’ head…..and his tummy.
Gareth saw himself being suspended 30 foot above the rink, wearing and uncomfortable harness and held up by just one thin wire and as if that wasn’t bad enough, at one point his motion sickness got so bad he had to be dropped back down to ground level so he could throw up in a nearby bin, which was quickly fetched by his partner Robin Johnstone.
A source told The Sun:
“Gareth’s routine really pushes him next week.
“He’s been finding it tough and at one point he went so green his partner Robin had to rush off and get a big black bin on the ice for him to hurl into. It’s tough because ice skating takes a lot of energy, but he’s struggling to keep his food down.”
Gareth has went from one of the series outsiders to one of the favourites to win and last night he won high praise for his rugby themed routine, and he was awarded 29.5, the third highest score of the evening.
He avoided the skate off once again and after the results show and Samia Ghadie’s elimination, Thomas thanked his fans on Twitter writing:
“Thanks to everyone who voted for me and @IceJohnstone .We are so happy to be in the semi finals. Thanks everyone.xx”
Robin was also pretty elated to have made the semi finals and added:
“Thank you do do much everyone got your support and votes tonight ! Semi finals here we come next week xoxo”
