It’s love week on Dancing On Ice this evening and Karen Barber has been giving her predictions and thoughts on what will lie ahead for the celebrities on tonight’s live show.
The remaining stars will attempt to bring some romance and soppiness to the ITV series when they perform with their professional partners but judge and coach Karen thinks some may struggle with their routines more than others.
She isn’t holding out high hopes for Joe Pasquale, who sat at the bottom of the leaderboard last weekend after his dire Leveller performance.
Speaking to The Mirror Karen said:
“It’s love week and we’ve tried our best to bring the romance to the ice – but for Joe Pasquale, it’s just never going to happen.”
Joe does provide lots of light entertainment for the viewers and the panel though and Barber enjoys watching him. She added:
“When I look at him he makes me laugh. He has a naturally funny face.”
Karen is particularly proud of the advances rugby star Gareth Thomas has made in the last few weeks, she revealed.
The beefy sports star – who also competed in Celebrity Big Brother last year – won praise last week after throwing himself into his difficult routine and tricky solo segment and Barber is expecting great things once more this evening.
She says Gareth has had a ‘breakthrough’ with the emotional side of his performance and has found a way to connect with his partner Robin. She explained:
“One celebrity who has had a big breakthrough is Gareth Thomas.”
“In the past, he’s found it difficult to show emotion. But this week his number is slow, romantic, and it’s clear he cares about skate partner Robin Johnstone.”
Beth Tweddle will be attempting the headbanger this week and she has had a tough few days in rehearsals. The Olympic medal winning gymnast took a tumble and bashed her head off the ice earlier this week and Karen admitted that the incident scared her a lot.
“In training, Beth Tweddle had a fall and practically bounced off the ice,” she said.
“It shook her up, but she’s tough.”
Tonight Luke Campbell will be skating to ‘I’ve Had The Time Of My Life’ from Dirty Dancing and will be attempting the movie’s iconic lift, while Samia Ghadie will be going all old style soppy and skating with Sylvain Longchambon to ‘I Will Always Love You.’
She is hoping to improve on her scores last weekend, when she ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard with Joe. However, insiders have said that she isn’t doing any more independent skating and if anything, is clinging to her partner even more.
