Dancing On Ice 2013: Karen Barber hits back at Jason Gardiner’s jibes over Christopher Dean nepotism, saying “That’s low, even for Jason!”
Fans of Dancing On Ice will know that there’s no love lost between judges Karen Barber and Jason Gardiner, especially after Jason said that the only reason Karen landed a place on the show’s judging panel is because she’s dating pro-skating mentor Christopher Dean.
However, Karen’s hit back at Jason’s jibe, saying, “It’s ridiculous,” and adding, “We’re never going to be friends, but saying things like that is low, even for Jason.
“To suggest my relationship with Chris has anything to do with my position on the show is pathetic.”
Karen, who fell out with Jason on-screen after he told her “If you opinion mattered, you’d be a judge, not a coach” added, “Jason and I don’t speak. We don’t see eye to eye, but I’m professional and I hope other people will be the same…
“The thing with Jason is he seems to enjoy intimidating people. But he needs to pick his battles because I’m not scared of him.”
Of her relationship with Chris, Karen said, “Chris and I are old news now. It’s been two years so we’re settled.
“We don’t get up to anything exciting – we had an early dinner and watched TV on New Year’s Eve, that’s as wild as it gets I’m afraid.
“We’re comfortable and happy.”
The news of Karen and Chris’s relationship first went public in 2011, just a couple of months after both ended their marriages to their former partners.
Karen was married to Dancing on Ice coach Stephen Pickavance while Chris was wed to American skater Jill Trenary.
Of the furore that their romance caused at first, Karen said, “It shouldn’t have been such a talking point. It was hardly a scandal, was it?
“We were both separated and middle-aged, and got together after knowing each other for 30 years.
“But let’s face it, it’s difficult for anyone going through a separation when new relationships start up.
“So when everyone seems to be talking about it, it’s even trickier. All anyone wants is to protect their families.”
Karen concluded, “Time moves on, and that’s a good thing.”
Indeed it is, but the feud with Jason doesn’t look set to “move on” anytime soon!
