Dancing On Ice 2013: Karen Barber says her problems with ‘offensive’ Jason Gardiner can’t be resolved!
Karen Barber has admitted that she isn’t trying to fix her relationship with Jason Gardiner.
The pair fell out on a previous series of Dancing On Ice, after the ice skating professional was removed from the judging panel of the show and so she could focus on her job of head coach. They disagreed over a contestant on a live show during the 2011 run and as eight million people watched, Jason mocked Karen saying:
‘If your opinion still mattered you’d be on the panel.’
Jason was dropped from the panel himself for 2012 but both stars were reinstated this year and it seems their relationship is still very frosty.
Speaking on Daybreak today Karen admitted:
“We’ve gone through difficult times, we don’t interact away from the panel so there hasn’t really been time to fix it and recover from it.”
“On a Sunday I try to do my job as professionally as I can and I don’t have the time or the energy to try to resolve something that probably can’t ever be resolved. It is what it is.”
There have been many suggestions that the feud between the pair is being staged to build the drama and hopefully the ratings for the ITV show but Barber insisted that’s it’s all very real, continuing:
“It’s not pantomime, I think Jason says what he thinks and there are consequences to that. He does tend to offend people. If you break down what he says it is a little bit offensive.”
“He knows his stuff, as a dancer and a choreographer he does. What he says listen to it, because it can be constructive, it’s just sometimes the way he says it that can be offensive.”
Dancing On Ice will return this weekend, but this time with a twist. The celebrities and their professional partners will perform in fours and after each routine finishes one couple will be granted immunity from elimination and one will face the public vote.
No doubt Jason and Karen will disagree over their choices!
