Dancing On Ice helped Denise Welch cope with bereavement

Denise Welch has admitted that training for Dancing On Ice, has helped her come to terms with the death of a dear friend.

The former Coronation Street actress will make her skating debut on tonight’s episode of the ITV ice skating show and told The Sunday Star how focussing on the show has helped her deal with the passing of Lester Middlehurst, a showbiz writer who she had known for many years.

Denise, who will perform this evening with her professional partner Matt Evers, told the newspaper:

“It’s all been going really well but a couple of personal things have happened.

“A very dear friend of mine, Lester Middlehurst, died, so I’ve had to deal with that during the skating practice.

“The skating has been really therapeutic – it’s done wonders for my state of mind.

“I love every second of being on the ice and getting on well with Matt means the world to me.

“Our good relationship has really helped me through it all.”

She joked: “I’m in love with Matt, with Tim’s blessing.”
