Dancing On Ice: Jason Gardiner apologises to Karen Barber!

Jason Gardiner has made, what sounded like a forced apology to Karen Barber.

The Dancing On Ice judge had previously hit out at the head coach, after she questioned his critique of Johnson Beharry’s routine.

However trying to avoid yet another OFCOM investigation, ITV bosses obviously told Gardiner to grovel a bit during the results show and he did it….grudgingly. The judge come fashion expert said:

OK, well first of all, I would like to talk to Karen.

Watching that back, Karen, I have to say that I overstepped the mark, and said something I’m not proud of in the heat of the moment.

He then tried to maintain some dignity by adding:

But I do wish that you would listen to what we’re saying and not be so overly emotional with your responses.

Karen wasn’t impressed or quick to forgive. She replied:

Please, you have said more than enough, tonight. You’re a nasty, nasty man!

Watch the video of the initial row below and read Jeff Brazier’s defence of Karen here. Who do you support? Was Jason right in his comments to Christopher Dean’s new girlfriend? Leave your comments below.

  1. Charlotte says:

Jason was only saying what he felt as a judge on the panel. He wasn’t rude personally to the skater and Karen does take the comments on too emotionally. He apologised and she wasn’t even gracious enough to accept his apology. She sits there with a haughty air and looks po faced. What is Christopher Dean allegedly doing going out with her for? She needs to lighten up. Jason makes a lot of sense. He’s a great critique.

  2. kath says:

that wasn’t an apology…the odious offensive bully called jason Gardiner was only trying to save his skin…slime ball….

  3. yuw says:

i wouldnt call him a bully… jason says the same thing when every skater does bad so why does karen get so angry when he said it to johnson? hes in the same boat as everyone else and should be treated so!

  4. D Hall says:

I think it is far overdue. Jason needs to be booted off the judging panel.
He is obnoxious, unconstructive in his comments and a bully. He has no skating knowledge, so I feel he has absolutly no redeeming qualities as a judge.
I am getting fed up with his comments and am thinking about stopping watching a show, which was once a very good show…..but no longer.
GET RID IF HIM before you loose more viewers.

  5. ann says:

Jason has to go, he is rude arrogant and very full of himself. He has no manners (wearing a hat indoors is very rude and something we dont allow the kids to do in school!) It is time for him to go, he is a dreadful judge, he is not constructivre he is a bully..
He needs to go, people aretalking about not watching.

  6. Gavin says:

jason should have been sacked a long time ago he gets far to personal with his comments theres a difference between being constructive and down right personal and he is just a vile man a poor mans Simon Cowell i hope show bosses do the right thing and fire him.

  7. R Hunter says:

Jason overstepped the mark tonight – his comments about Karen were below the belt and uncalled for. Lets face it – Karen is far better ‘qualified’ to comment on any skating than Jason will ever be.
Dancing on ice started with three ex-skaters on the judges panel – Robin Cousins, Nicky Slater and Karen Barber and their skating and performance expertise added to the credibility of the show – why are Nicky and Karen off the judges panel (Nicky off the show completely) and why is Emma Bunton there ???? X – Factor or another singing talent show I could accept – but this show is supposed to be about skating.

  8. Ernest S says:

Well Jason was unprofessional by saying what he said to Karen about her not being in the panel. Karen on the other hand exaggerate her reaction. Her final statement calling him a nasty was unprofessional as well.

  9. annie says:

Jason was obviously told to apologise in the break but all he said was “I want to talk to Karen” at no point did he use the word apology or even sorry.Karen did well to contain her anger at his initial nasty remark about her not being on the panel……well she should be there instead of Emma Bunton who is there for her young and pretty face, not her skating expertise, come on DOI,do the right thing, this show is losing all credibility

  10. LollyBee says:

Obviously Jason was forced to try and save the night but an apology that was not. Whilst Karen can be emotional at times that is because she has made an emotional investment with the skaters during coaching and understands their difficulties. When Jason gives constructive criticism it is usually good, there is no need to be personal and what he did tonight just proves that he is not a professional. Get the real experts back on the panel then we can all enjoy the show and appreciate the comments more.

  11. Chrissy says:

I cannot believe they keep Jason on as a judge. I’m totally for Karen. I don’t understand why Jason or Emma for that matter are judges as they don’t skate….At least Emma is not rude. Unless Jason goes I don’t think I’ll be watching anymore. There is no excuse for downright rudeness.

  12. John Wilkinson says:

During recent winters i have enjoyed watching dancing on ice of a Sunday evening. This year with a change of judges and most especially always having a comment from Jason, I find I`m more likely to switch over to another channel. I am absolutely disgusted with the very nasty and unnesacerily personal comments from the upstart of a “judge” called Jason. There are ways of letting people down gently with constructive critisism, just listen to the other judges. If Jason is there to be another Craig from S C D then he is failing and I suspect that the voting public did listen to the judges tonight which is why a fine skater was voted off. Let me know when Jason has left the show and I`ll switch D O I back on again.

  13. Margaret says:

Why is this rude, insecure little man still being paid to insult people on the show? He is not qualified to judge skating prowess and as for him being a ‘fashion expert’, do me a favour! His array of silly caps make him look like a cartoon character. Doesn’t he know it’s bad manners to wear headgear indoors or is he more concerned about hiding his baldness than dressing appropriately? His comments show his lack of professionalism and sends out the wrong signal to youngsters who could think that this attitude will get you work on television. This is one of the rare family entertainment shows left on TV but I refuse to continue watching or voting until this obnoxious little creature is removed. Also, why is Emma Bunton judging this skill? Another one with no knowledge of this field.

  14. oscal says:

For some time now I have been wondering why Jason is on this show – he is not an ice skater, never mind an ice dancer!! He is always rude and offensive to both contestants and the trainers. In this particular instance he was totally out of order. He has absolutely no idea what Johnson has been through; Karen was trying to explain his difficulties, but she was unable to put her point across because of the total arrogance and ignorance of this intelerable man. He should now be sacked from the programme, and Nicky Slater brought back. Why has he gone? He, like Torville, Dean and Karen are the PROFESSIONALS, Jason is more DEFINATELY not professional in any way.

  15. Alan says:

I am amazed that the ITV have not sacked an unprofessional, obnoxious, untalented, person called Jason.I also will refuse to watch D O I if he (Jason) is not replaced.

  16. jeremy says:

come on how long can this scruffy foul mouthed idiot be allowed to ruin this show
every week he comes out with some vile comment
does the producer think he adds spice to the proceedings
get a backbone and kick him out this is not big brother

  19. David Whitney says:

Jason was out of order tonight and extremely rude to Karen I am surprised she did not slap his face. Why is he on the panel? Why do we have only one ice-skater on the panel? Karen would be far better on the panel, she gives constructive criticism and does not make remarks about people’s personal appearance.I think this time he has gone too far and needs to be replaced with Karen, that would be a suitable smack in the face for him and I am surprised that he was not removed immediately for what was an uncomfortable and embarrassing situation.
P.S. Really the judges needn’t be there anyway as the great British Public will vote for who they fancy and not
for the best skaters. Tonight’s skate off was a farce when sub-standard skaters have been put through.Just the
same situation as Strictly Come Dancing when good dancers
have to leave to make way for the public’s favourite personalities.

  20. G Lagdon says:

The altercation between Jason Gardiner and Karen Barber is a storm in a tea cup. Both are at fault: Jason for being too derogatory and Karen for being oversensitive. Both need to think before opening their mouths. What I think is more serious, is this evening’s telephone voting farce, which makes a mockery of the competitive aspect of the program. The result was an insult to Torvil & Dean. Spending money voting is a waste. In fact on tonight’s result, the program has ceased to be a competition and as such is questionable whether it is worth watching.

  21. janette says:

I think Jason was way out of order, he was very rude and insulting to Karen, who after all does know how to do her job and so is much more qualified than him. Sorry Jason you should go.

  22. Brian and meryl says:

I think it’s high time that Jason was sacked for his rude comments. Johnson beharry is a true hero. For ages he was unable to even remember anything let alone a difficult dance routine. I strongly agree with Karen, he is a nasty man and should be fired immediately for his comments. I feel the best way to get this little a******e gone would be a complaint to itv .

  23. jackie says:

jason needs to be sacked from the show, very unprofessional, spits anything that comes out of his nasty mouth of his. you need to learn how not to hurt other people feelings with words. karen is far more a better judge than emma and yourself…..

  24. Stella says:

Jason didn’t actually say anything offensive to Johnson, he was talking about the fact that he hasn’t progressed very far, Robin said the exact same thing!!! Think Karen was out of order, her jumping up and constant snide remarks at Jason every week are also getting tedious. Yes he made a sniping a comment back at her but she made the first personal swipe at him, I’ve watched it again 5 times. Why was she dropped from the panel anyway???? I read that her and Robin got into last year also, and that she constantly attacked Nicky as well, she isn’t all sweetness so be fair people.

  25. Terre says:

Jason’s remarks and critisism are often harsh, sometimes rude, but always incredibly truthful. He’s not looking at the skating, he’s looking at performance. Sometimes his harshness spur the ‘celebrities’ to give more of themselves to prove him wrong, and I also think he knows this, which is why he continues to do it.
Besides – the public love a fracas. They love to boo and jeer – it’s our modern version of gladiator games. It gives good TV, and therefore money. I can’t see the producers of Dancing on Ice ever sacking him for this reason alone. I think he’d walk out first, and I wouldn’t blame him.

  26. David johnson says:

Get rid of j g he is a disgrace

  27. Stuart says:

Jason was absolutely out of order tonight! It seems he has no filter from what he thinks to what comes out of his mouth! Karen is an ice skater with years of experience, Jason is a show dancer and has no place commenting on Anyones skating prowess! I have worked with him before he was famous and he was equally as rude before fame hit! What he did tonight on live tv was to bully and I think that the bosses on this show have no choice but to remove him from the show altogether!

  28. Nicola says:

If Jason was working in most companies he’d probably be up for a disciplinary for his bullying comments every week. The fact is Johnson has made remarkable progress considering his brain injuries and should be given credit for that. Instead, Jason appears to relish in his far from constructive criticisms. Yes, he has every right to be critical but there was ways of saying it. That said, Karen’s reaction was a little OTT – is there more to it? Fantastic for viewing figures though!

  29. Jason the Gardener says:

Never mind Jason, Jeff Brazier needs a few lessons in English Grammar. “I would have had to of stepped in!”

    WTF?

    Would have to of?

    “Tweeting” indeed.

  30. sue says:

I am afraid to say its a family show, even though I do not have children myself what jason said was rude and uncalled for. He does not work with the skaters in the week Like Kare (Gold medalist)does) Yes she is passionate, she is an artist and gets attached to the skaters . I would like to know why all of strictly twitter tweets have gone missing for last night unless my phone has a blip (very much doubt ) as all the tweets (if you searched for what people had tweeted in their tweet were saying the same thing). If you follow my my next comment I think you can guess what it is . If it was a normal work place Jason would have got one score last night his P 45

  31. David Kratzer says:

Jason Gardiner has to go, no question.

He is a Patronising, Rude, Arrogant and Tiresome individual!

  32. sara says:

Jason is a charmless creature. He has been given the Craig R-H role but just hasnt got it. Talentless, lacking in wit and boring, his criticisms are rarely constructive, and frequently personal – using words like ‘silly’ to describe Vanilla Ice’s miming is one example – and he makes uncomfortable watching. We really dont get a lift if he praises, and only despise him when he is cutting and critical. I am not enjoying this series. Put him out of his, and our, misery!

  33. Azzy says:

I think jason gardiner should be sacked for his rude abusive comment towards karen.I will not be watching the show till that c*** is sacked and if he isn’t well thats 1 viewer down.Dancing on ice is turning out to be all about jason gardiner and no one else.

  34. mavis mercer says:

what is this now the jason gardner show he should go come on ofcom do something about it

  35. Tony Fenwick says:

STELLA is totally off beam. Karen Ice Danced with Nicky Slater to World standard an also to the highest levels in the Olympic Games. As a pair they were always highly critical of each others performance; they had to be. JG on the other hand has no actual knowledge of skating in any form – Dance, Speed or Figures, in fact he cannot skate at all. He is an offensive little turd and should be sacked without delay. He should have gone last year after his terrible remarks to Sharon Davies but for some reason he was kept on. Maybe ITV relish controversy. Whatever ‘relationsip’ issues there are between Karen and Christopher dean has nothing to do with the fact that JD is rude and offensive on what is supposed to be a family show. This gives entirely the wrong impression to youngsters. Sack the prat.

  36. Carole says:

Did Jason get the job because he comes cheap? He is a rude and talentless individual. Karen can skate and as proved herself. Therefore she is more use to the show than he is.His marking is also inconsistant. He marks low to people that he feels he can bully and gives higher scores to those who make bigger mistakes but who he likes. Someone should tell him that only the young can get away with the hat. He is an insult to an otherwise good show. Get him off.

  37. Clare says:

JG is an obnoxious little man…he always has been, and his comment about Karen not being on the judging panel was totally uncalled for. Perhaps he thought he was being funny. His apology was obviously forced and even then he couldn’t just leave it, he had to carry on and have another go at her. What is Karen to do…just sit back and let him carry on mocking and being nasty…?? There are plenty of other people out there who could judge the performance of the contestants so maybe it’s time to bring in some new blood and get rid of him….He is a bully and his P45 is way overdue……

  38. c. simpson says:

when will itv, start to take note,of the general public,s view, over, jason gardner.he is a total disgrace, this is a family show that we all look forward to all week, only for it to be spoilt by this very unpleasant man, whom think’s it is clever to pass insulting comment’s,not only to the contestant’s,but now,to karen barber.
i will however, continue to tune in each week, until the show finishes, but should jason gardner be brought back as a judge for next year show,i for one will certainly not be watching.

  39. c. simpson says:

  40. Hugh says:

It is obvious that the producers wanted to get rid of both Nicky and Karen as judges but her “relationship” with Christopher Dean meant they were forced to keep her on in the strange on-off screen role she now seems to have. I have no time for Jason but he does talk sense and if he is put in the impossible position of having to compare a rapidly improving contestant with a brain damaged one, how can he possibly win?

The producers chose the contestants to create controversy and the must be laughing all the way to the ratings bank, and the Jason Karen punch up is exactly what they want.

The public are joining in by voting all the good people off, so even more phone revenue for itv and bigger salaries for them and jason.

Let the fun continue, I love it.

  41. Leonard Amborski says:

    Dear Sirs,

I am not often shocked with items on televisions programs…but in this instance I was left speechless. Jason Gardner is a pig, far from any kind of gentleman and so far up his own…..The man must go immediately and not be allowed to stay a moment longer, I suspect the whole nation is behind Karen. She should come back as judge….
    Leonard Amborski

  42. Clare says:

To Hugh….The point of last night wasn’t about any attack on Johnson, it was about his attack on Karen and his subsquent lack of apology (he didn’t even say sorry).

  43. David says:

Jason a prat of the first order. Young adults will copy his loud mouthed rudery as they see it as acceptable. How on earth can parents and teachers train these young people how to behave in society when we have idiots like Jason on TV. The producers should come on the show and appologise for allowing him to remain and, as my granny would say, wash his mouth out with carbolic soap.
The sooner he goes the better. Today!!!!

  44. Lisa says:

Jason should have been sacked ages ago, he adds nothing to the panel, I think he is constantly trying to come up with what he thinks are witty one-line put downs. Sometimes he has some valid points about the performances but he dresses them up in such vile, nasty ways that it invalidates his opinion.

Get rid of him, should have done it years ago.

  45. Mike says:

Sack Jason. This man adds nothing to the show, i will no longer watch.

    Mike

  46. Sandra says:

Jason should be sacked how on earth he could last this long with nasty snide remarks i dont know.what is it all about with these caps as well, is he auditioning for a double for zak dingle? i thought chris and jane would have left a professional like karen who knew what she was talking and nicky on the panel. i love the programme but will think twice about switching on from now on after last night. emma bunton is no better on her views what does she know about ice skating?

  47. Sevvysgirl says:

I do think the producers of DoI knew exactly what they were doing by employing Jason Gardiner – the confrontation between him & Karen Barber was exactly what they wanted – the culmination of many weeks (& previous series)of ‘build up’! However, that in itself is wrong; it shows society’s ever-diminishing standards if it deems to be acceptable to sink to these levels for ‘entertainment’. Clearly ITV were only too happy to show the ‘fallout’ again in the playback session – they weren’t exactly trying to be discreet about it!! Having said all of that, I do feel Karen Barber should have stayed on as a judge if she truly did want her opinion to count. I agree with Stella who pointed out that she is ‘not all sweetness & light’ – she constantly swipes at Jason’s comments each week. It is a bit like an actress who watches from the wings – either get on the stage & act or keep quiet! Yes, Jason was wrong & clearly over-stepped the mark but, in fairness to him, he did apologise on air & Karen, once again, refused to listen. Karen has her place & so does Jason … What’s wrong is the whole format of the programme & the producers who allow all involved too much freedom of speech. Karen is right to be defensive about contestants (they often need boosting) but she does tend to take things rather too personally. Jason can be insensitive at times & rather OTT in his comments (but, as said before, that’s what he’s there for – the producers need ‘the bad guy’ to counteract the ‘softer’ comments.) As someone else has already pointed out, Robin actually said exactly the same as Jason – just in a nicer, softer way! I don’t think Jason was being disrespectful re Johnson’s progress (he’s clearly aware of his injuries & not belittling anything he’s done personally – merely commenting on the standard of his actual skating which, after all, is what the show’s about!!) I also agree that the voting is a farce when it results in two of the top skaters facing the head to head, as keeps happening. And I’m sure Johnson himself (who after all wasn’t forced to do the show) would be the first to admit to not wanting to remain in the show due only to the viewers pity or patronising. To conclude, Jason was wrong but then so was Karen – & no matter what way you look at it, two wrongs will never make a right!! :-)

  48. Peter Stanbridge says:

I am afraid this time I side with Jason. Karen’s comments were out of order and yes, Jason reply was very much below the belt. In this instance Jason’s judgement on Johnson’s performance was fair. Why should he score higher points to one of the skaters just because they have circumstances that makes it more difficult for them to skate so well? And the fact that Johnson had progressed from not even being able to walk on the ice to what he is doing is quite admirable and he and all of us should be proud of that. But this is a skating competition and Johnson isn’t as good as most of the others and to my mind should have been on the skate off. The result is a much better skater now has to return home.

  49. Mary says:

GET RID OF HIM! Sooner the better, does he not realise that when he is so rude to a contestant that it makes the public vote for that person just to get back at him. This is why the better skater is voted off and the less able kept in. He is offensive and obnoxious and looks right stupid with his silly hats bad manners to wear one indoors) but what does he know about good manners. He should not be a judge, what does he know about skating, and this applies to any other non-skater. How can they judge fairly when they have very or little knowledge about skating. Bring back Robin and Karen I say or people are just not going to switch on, who wants to watch and listen to that self centred little man. It must have been really embarrassing for Holly and Philip.

  50. James says:

Perhaps it’s because he (Jason Gardiner) is Australian – just like that other loud-mouthed idiot from Strictly Come Dancing, Craig Revel Horwood?! Arrogant, self-opinionated and ignorant…need I say more?!

  51. Sarah says:

WHEN WILL PEOPLE GET IT…..???? It wasn’t what JG said about Johnson that was so horrid…he was being honest and truthful and that was ok…it was his vitriolic attack on Karen that was so unpleasant and his subsequent “apology” when he then took the opportunity to have another go….

  52. emma says:

Jason has not the most diplomatic approach – but Karen takes it far too personally! Jason had no disrespect for Johnsons personal life – it is a skating competition – and constructive critisim of his skating ability was delivered – Karen is daft for reacting the way she did – and anyone can say anything in the heat of the moment! it is more disrespectful for johnson to get the sympathy vote when there are people who are much better skaters and that goes for Kerry and comedy Dave too!!!!!!!

  53. Sevvysgirl says:

I couldn’t agree with you more, Emma – you’ve said much the same as me & you’re spot on! It does seem that in this day & age we’re not allowed to make negative comments of any kind – or constructive critisism as it was once known! (Not that I think Jason was being negative actually.) No one likes to be told they’re less than perfect it seems; but that’s giving ‘false’ accolade, often meaning those that deserve the praise miss out altogether because everyone is lumped together as being ‘the best’! Johnson’s clearly a great guy (& NO ONE was dismissing his general bravery or the fact that he’d had the guts to come on the show in the first place) but, as you say, you can’t keep skaters in on a sympathy vote at the cost of better skaters missing out. :-)

  54. Avril Clarke says:

I always love Dancing on Ice but this year Jason Gardiner is overstepping the mark he is a BULLY and a no nothing ( not a skater ) Karen Barber is a world skater and knows more about skating than he will ever know, he is spoiling the programme and I think he shoule be sacked. The panel shoud consist of ex skaters not so called old pop stars and diva,s then we would get true
    coments ( get rid )

  55. roy says:

karren is a highly qualified champion in her field and that’s why she is qualified to judge. that jason has no championships under his belt. he is a vile queen and what he said to karren was very unprofessional. that is all you need to sack him. christopher hit the nail on the head when he stated that the public are not listening to the judges!!! get rid!!!

  56. Nicola says:

I agree with Margaret that this show has is sending out the wrong messages to the young impressionable viewers. If Jason is not sacked for his obvious lack of professionalism you will being saying to all viewers that it is ok to disrespect people, be very rude to them, publicly try to humiliate them, regardless of their standing. He is very quick at giving out very rude and personal remarks to all and sundry, but cannot take a very controlled response which did not actually insult him. This is not entertainment, are we going back to the Roman era of humiliation for entertainment. At the moment If Torvill and Dean want to keep their reputation they should start distancing themselves from a show which is going downhill and does not seem to be about skating anymore. Bring in people on a level playing field.
As for the wrong people being voted out, very well played by the producers? or am I being cynical here. If the reviews were constructive and not personal you would have had the correct people in the skate-off, this is the public purposely going against the underdogs who get humiliated. Surely you are not going to let this once brilliant show turn into another farce?

  57. Leila says:

Enough is enough. jason is really ruining a family show for me with all his bullying & disgraceful comments he comes out with!! That wasn’t an apology to Karen, apologies usually use the words ‘sorry’ or ‘apologise’…this didn’t have either!!! I really dont understand why he has such a big hold over ITV, i would of thought they had an anti-bullying policy, cant help thinking bbc would of had him out on his ear!!!!

  58. Fran says:

In previous series, I often felt that Jason was correct in his critique of the skaters, even when he was booed, he had a valid point. However, since his comments last year to Sharon Davies, he has crossed the line and is now downright insulting. ITV are clearly pandering to this pathetic little man in order to boost their ratings. Get rid of him, and lets have the return of Nicky Slater and, for the “dance” part, lets have Arlene Phillips!!

  59. Sheila says:

I think that Karen was too emotional. How dare she contradict a judge. He is fair to everyone and gives points to improve and praise when it is due. That what a judge does. Everyone who chooses to take part should accept good and bad critism. Carry on the expert advice Jason.

  60. NEIL says:

    Neil says

Jason Gardener is an obnoxious, egotistical bully. Yes he’s there to give critical comments, but last night he overstepped the mark by taking things to a personal level. Johnson BeHarry fought in a war for him. How many medals does Jason have? And if he’s that good a judge, lets see him on the ice scoring a perfect 30. I don’t think so! If there is a next series then please can ITV replace Jason with a ‘real person’!

  61. Marlene says:

I cannot believe the bad manners of Jason Gardner. He sits on a panel with a lady indoors with his hat on. I was always brought up to understand that is extremely rude. I realise it’s to cover up his baldness but the only one he is kidding is himself. He has no skating experience, unlike Karen Barber, and should be ashamed of his rudeness and bullying tactics. Why on earth is he still anywhere on television. Do the powers that be feel we have to have someone to hate even if they are so ill mannered it is now not a programme one would want our children, impressionable younsters, to watch.

  62. My main area of expetise is motorcycle racing.. I guess that makes me the equal of Jason Gardener as far as Ice Dancing is concerned.. How did this hidious little man ever get this gig in the first place?? I believe he’s a fashion expert?? So why would he be so arrogant as to demean a former profesionals knowledge of the sport.. Putting forward the idea that his opinion was more important and qualified than hers because he was sat on the panel and she wasn’t.. I’ve watched the show with my wife on several occasions this season he has in my opinion been over the top with what he describes as crytique.. At one stage I said why doesn’t Domonick Cork take him to a cricket ground and bounce a few balls round his ears to see how he likes being out of his comfort zone.. The man is a the male version of a hen, a door handle, the place where a bell finishes..

  63. Jaycee says:

Jason Gardener, is so far up himself, its a wonder he doesn’t turn inside out. He should get off his supercillious soap box, and be far more courteous to the people around him. The public should boycott the programme until he is removed. He is so rude and offensive. I certainly wont be watching the programme again !!

  64. paul says:

as a viewer I felt uncomfortable watching karen being so unjustifiably & publicly insulted by jason gardner. If a ‘proper’ public appology is not made next week then itv should do the decent thing and sack him.

  65. Gillian says:

I have loved this show from year 1 but now can’t watch. Kerry is a JOKE! Denise is getting better, as are Dave and Johnson, albeit slowly, but the new format is insane, 3 judges, 2 of whom can’t skate is crazy.

Johnson isn’t on par with the top skaters, but his progressi amazing, especially considering the brain injury he had and is probably still dealing with, what he is doing on the show is brilliant.

Yes, Jason’s comments to Johnson weren’t bad and yes Karen can usually take things too personally, but not this time. This time she interjected to state a fact, Jason saying there was a ‘slight’ improvement in Johnson isn’t right, he has made a lot of progress from where he started and Karen wass right to make sure that is recognised, by everyone including Jason, but Jason took offense to her rightly correcting him, she wasn’t being emotional about it, she was correcting him and he lashed out as her because he is an ASS!

He turned a professional opinion into a personal attack and didn’t have the nerve to say he was sorry!

    That man should be fired!

As it is, I record the show and watch it later without the judges comments, I might not even bother doing that if both he and Kerry survive much further as this year it is a farce!

  66. Maureen says:

You know I didn’t actually hear him say the words, “I’m sorry for my comments to you earlier.” Or “forgive me I was out of order in my address to you earlier.”

    Either would have done.

But no his words were so insipid and dishonest, he’s obviously so proud of himself he doesn’t recognise when he’s acted unprofessionally and needs to apologise properly.

I think they should put Karen back on the judging panel and ask last years winner to Judge aswell in place of Emma.

For additional coaches they could ask the professional partners of those who the viewers didn’t vote for to compete in the show.

I can’t help but wonder though whether Jason shouldn’t just be given a pair of skates and asked to err strutt his stuff on the ice and let us judge how good he is.

  67. Tracyanne says:

Jason Gardiner is a egomaniacal narcissist. Week after week his comments and opinions have become more and more vulgar and offensive.

I have submitted my complaint to Ofcom and would urge everyone who finds this nauseating man’s opinions repugnant to do the same.

Hopefully ITV will realise that the viewers no longer wish to watch and listen to Jason on what is a great, family orientated and entertaining show.

There are several people that spring to mind, that are more than capable of taking his place on the Ice Panel and you can be guaranteed that they would give ‘constructive’ criticism and comments and not the nasty, distasteful, disrespectful and obscene comments that flow from this man’s mouth each week!

  68. muriel hunter says:

Please get rid of Jason before you loose viewers, he is so arrogant.

  69. Sally says:

Jason does no bring anything to the show. I just dread seeing his bitter, twisted face appear. He is so bitchy. How he can comment that Karen gets over emotional when he reacted to her like that…. All I can say I’d pot and kettle.

  70. Dawn says:

We live in a country that prides itself on “freedom of speech” and I am seriously getting bored with constant moans about the behaviour of celebrities on TV or Radio. Celebrities are like the rest of us, human, and therefore not perfect – sometimes we slip up, GET OVER IT OR TURN THE TV OFF!

  71. cate says:

Karen is a medal winning skater – neither JG or Emma B are – why are they on the panel – neither of them can skate.

JG’s so called apology was just a justification of his vicious comments earlier

  72. Tom Glynn says:

The producers should simply get rid of Jason Garner, as without him it would be the perfect show on British television. His belligerence and arrogance contributes nothing to this spectacular show, so let him empty bins instead.

  73. Zebydie says:

Jason is a highly qualified and very experienced dancer and he is on the show to judge the dancing content. No, he shouldn’t have made the comment, but the row would not be there if Karen had not made him repeat his words and then attack him. It was very unprofessional of her to do so in public and on TV. He did have the grace to apologise, but Karen did not have the grace to accept it. He was being honest and the other judges agreed with him, and they all gave the same score, so I don’t see why she had a problem with it. It must be very difficult as a judge to compare somebody who can dance with somebody who is handicapped in any way, it is an impossible situation. A good judge will always put their emotions to ne side and look at the content, which is what Jason and the rest of the current panel do. I can only assume that she is extremely angry at not being able included as a judge this year, however, because of her ice dance experience she is better suited to the role of coach. I hope Jason doesn’t leave, he is always honest, if a bit outspoken, and tells it like it is. His comments are made for people to take the meaning from them, not to be taken literally. I think the programme would be a poorer show without Jason and I hope he stays. Karen is the one who should apologise, to Chris and Jane for being unprofessional in her actions, and to Jason for attacking him as she did, but somehow I can’t see that happening.

  74. Jackie says:

When will they get rid of that odious little man. Send him back to Australia where he belongs. He is so rude to people and thinks that because some people fawn over him that it gives him the right to make abusive personal comments. His comments are rarely constructive and are nothing to do with skating. I’d like to see him try to skate well under the pressure of learning a routine in a week.

  75. pat says:

lets face it johnson cannot skate but jason did not apologise, he just said i overstepped the mark, he is rude and arrogant, would like you man to talk to people like that, i certainly wouldnt

  76. Pauline says:

Jason is an arrogant man that irritates the life out of me. After his comments last night I think he should be kicked off the show. Karen has more talent in her wee toe than he has in his whole body. He needs to grow a back bone and give Karen a proper apology then leave.

  77. Jacky Westoby says:

Karen is a wet, silly, far too full of herself ex skater, who likes to be seen as the “Mother Hen” surrounded by her charges. She really, really annoys me.Jason says what he thinks, HONESTLY, unlike Emma and Robin, who daren’t be too nasty in case they get booed. jason was not rude to Johnson, he only said what most of us at home were thinking-brave man, done very well considering, but he’s not a skater, and never will be.Jason wants them all to improve-isn’t that the point?-and doesn’t patronise or give faulse praise.Karen just wants everyone to love her , all the time. Still, she’s sleeping with Chris-well done Karen, got the top man!- so no doubt she’l get what she wants and Jason will get the chop. And that’s when I stop watching-she didn’t even have the grace to accept his apology, which wasn’t even necessary, in my opinion.

  78. Margaret says:

I agree wholeheartedly with Traceyanne’s comments and have also submitted my complaint to Ofcom and received an acknowledgement confirming they are investigating.
NOTE TO ZEBYDIE: Before posting any further comments online that refers to a person’s ability, it would be useful if you were to brush up on modern day acceptable language. Try starting with ‘equality’. To compare Johnson’s disability against ‘someone who can dance’ is nothing short of shameful and discriminatory. Perhaps you could also research the meaning of another word we should all be using to describe Johnson…..HERO! Then perhaps you could learn to communicate with a degree of sensitivity and be aware that we live in the 21st century.

  79. Jacky Westoby says:

Zebydie didn’t say anything wrong, Margaret, or disrespect Johnson in any way, so I suggest YOU look again at what YOU wrote. The judges are in a ridiculous situation when people with disabilities of any kind are pitted against the able bodied. They can’t expect them to do as well, but that means they have to patronise them or give faulse praise, which is hardly fair to the other contestants, and surely not what Johnson, or Heather Mills last season, are wanting. They will be voted for by the public week in, week out-goes without saying-and if people like Jason dare to speak the truth-i.e that they are progressing, but they need to do more-hardly a character assassination, is it?What exactly did Jason say that was so awful? You obviously heard something I didn’t. Karen is often downright rude to Jason, and was also to Nicky Slater when he was a judge-he spoke much more sense than she did; shame he was dropped. Seems that Karen can do no wrong in most people’s eyes, but personally, she turns my stomach with her constant whining, and incessant bleatings about contestant’s “journeys” ! If you can’t stand the heat, get out the kitchen-or off the ice, Ms Barber of the barbed comments.

  80. Margaret says:

First of all Jackie, like you, I am not a supporter of Karen. Nor do I support any form of patronising of disabled people, (whether it be in a competition or not),rudeness or personal attacks on people (whether it be one of the professional team or a contestant).Note, your own personal remarks that Karen ‘turns your stomach’ and bringing into the debate that she is ‘sleeping with the main man’. Not a personal attack then??? Charming and constructive??? I’ll say one sure thing in Jason’s defence, he is consistent. His lack of professionalism in his critique is and always has been insensitive while he has been in that role. Maybe if he is unable to deliver his opinion in a less offensive manner he, as you put it, should get out of the kitchen. I’m shocked that you didn’t feel uncomfortable with the comments Zebydie made i.e. that it must be difficult for a judge to compare someone who can dance to someone who is ‘handicapped’ What a shocking turn of phrase. Even Zebydie admits that Jason should not have made the comment which led Karen to defend Johnson.

  81. anne says:

jason gardener gets paid megga bucks to insult people what is the world coming to who needs the troops in Afghanistan send in mr gardener he will cut them to shreads with that mouth of his he should be sacked he will strike again you wait and see how do you sleep at night with one eye open if you have any sense

  82. Jacky Westoby says:

I’m sorry, Margaret, but I think this is a case of “p.c” gone over the top, as usuall. Can I not use the term “handicapped”? Why not? Johnson is handicapped as a result of injurys .Fact. Jason wasn’t rude or derogatory to him-fact.He did lose his temper with Karen, hardly surprising after her constant sniping, moaning and tears whenever he criticizes her skaters-and, therefore, her ability as a coach. Jason can’t win with the audience; Karen makes the most of that, and plays on it all the time. Yes, she turns my stomach with her weeping-I’m perfectly in my rights to say that, and in my rights to criticize her, just as you can defend her if you want. It’s called having an opinion, Margaret-and sometimes, people aren’t going to have the same ones as you.Get over it.I state my support for Jason, and my dislikee for Karen, and my opinion on the incident. That is what this site is for. You think otherwise, fine, it’s called democracy. Thank God we still live in a country where it’s allowed!

  83. Jacky Westoby says:

Oh, and just another thing, Margaret-I happen to have a handicapped child, who suffered head injurys in an accident-so she is handicapped, and we use the word all the time in our house.Sorry if you find that offensive, but I haven’t got time to search around for other words to use that wont upset you! And if she ever went on a reality programme, she would want to be treated like everyone else, and not with kid gloves or patronising remarks. And I would be quite happy for Jason to judge her as long as he was fair and honest-which he was. Ooh, what a terrible mother I must be, eh? Never mind, she loves me, so I must be doing something right, even if I’m horribly un-p.c in my thoughts and words!

  84. Margaret says:

Oh dear, Jacky, you sound like a very angry person or are you just a bit oversensitive are you when another’s opinion is not the same as yours? No need to say sorry to me, believe me, you could not offend or upset me with your choice of dialect. A range of opinions is healthy and my opinion is exactly that – it belongs to me, with no link to the extremity of the PC culture that is around today. My earlier comments refer only to insensitive delivery of opinions, not the actual opinions aired. However, if you’re comfortable using language that may offend some disabled people, then that’s up to you. I became disabled just a few years ago and have had to fight hard to face the challenges that have created very new and restrictive circumstances in my daily life but thankfully, I am a strong person who knows my own mind and not easily intimidated by others’ opinions but I remain aware that not everyone has that strength and can be upset by other peoples’ perception of them. I will continue to be alert to this irrespective of what anyone else thinks about this view. This site is merely a variety of different ‘opinions’ based around a TV show and not to be taken personally. However, I will continue to air my ‘opinion’ and if that means criticising comments from another source that I feel could be hurtful to another’s feelings/dignity,then so be it.

  85. Jacky Westoby says:

Which is fine, Margaret, as long as you remember that other people’s opinions are as valid as yours, and you are not necessarily correct, just as neither are they.-and for the record, I am not a very angry person, although that is exactly the impression you are giving me about yourself.I really don’t have time for anymore of this argueing about what is supposedly an entertainment programme, God knows what is going to happen after this Sunday!!! personally, I do find your postings rather sarcastic and bitter, that’s my opinion, and I’m sticking to it. I’m sure other people reading this forum are finding it all rather tedious now; you might have time on your hands to carry on relentlessly but I’m afraid I don’t!! I disagree with you; you disagree with me, etc etc.Yawn!! Thank God we’re not next door neighbours, that’s all I can say, we’d have some real fall-outs over the garden fence, I’m sure.Time to move on, I think, don’t you?

  86. Margaret says:

Haha Jacky, you’re hilarious….love it, but time to wind your neck in, dear! I don’t believe anyone’s opinion can be deemed correct or incorrect – they are not fact, just a personal point of view. How it is put into words is where it can offend. I have no anger in me and was merely responding to your messages to me. I hope you do mean it when you say it’s time to move on. If that is so, I wondered why you ended your spiel with a question. No worries, I won’t follow suit.

  87. Jacky Westoby says:

Oh, you do sound such a nasty, bitter woman-and patronising as well, quite a combination!
