Dancing On Ice: Jason Gardiner squares up to Karen Barber after Johnson Beharry’s performance (VIDEO)

Johnson Beharry and his professional partner Jodeyne skated to ‘Piano Man’ on tonight’s Dancing On Ice show.

Clad is cadburys purple costumes, the pair looked sleek on the rink and Johnson’s routine went without a hitch. He was worried about his independent step section in rehearsals but pulled it off brilliantly on the night. There were wobbles and a few little s

We just love Johnson’s attitude and drive and the fact that he smiles throughout every performance!

Judges Comments:

Jason: 4 I am looking at performance and yet there has been a slight journey but are you continuing to improve? I’m not seeing enough…it’s not bad and that is not what I’m looking for and I want you to get better.

Head coach and former judge Karen Barber then defended Johnson’s performance, saying that Jason was being unnecessarily harsh. He hit back saying:

‘Karen if your opinion mattered, you’d still be on the panel.’

Rage flared in Barbers eyes at this point. She stood up, walked to the judge’s table and asked jason to repeat his comments to her face. He did and she raged:

‘You know Jason you really are so offensive. You bring to this panel so little, you really do!’

Round one to Karen we think…..we can’t wait to see what happens when Jason unleashes on Kerry Katona!

  1. dianne says:

Jason is such a rude arrogant and offensive moron dont know why he is a judge hope he is make a public appology to Karen and Johnson

    Thank You

  2. andy coller says:

Jason Gardiner gives and does nothing for this programme
Karen Barber is a professional skater is Jason l dont think so. He is the most obnoxious ignorent persdon on television time for him to get off the panel and Karen to go back on. At least she’s polite and not catty like Jason. So Jason go back to dressing on queer as folk.

  3. mary says:

I think Jason should do a public apology to Johnson, how dare he say what he did, he has shown his ignorance on brain injuryor else he would know that in Johnson’s case that was a huge improvement. Well done, Johnson.

  4. mary says:

I think Jason should do a public apology to Johnson, how dare he say what he did, he has shown his ignorance on brain injuryor else he would know that in Johnson’s case that was a huge improvement. Well done,Johnson.

  5. Steve E says:

Gardiner is a complete twat, he does not see any hero unless it is behind him! A public apology is the very least that idiot should do…… Johnson may not skate, he has suffered severe injuries and shows what a real man can do in adversity!

  6. Jen says:

What an awful man, he should be sacked for the insulting comments he makes!

  7. Jane says:

How rude???? Jason is such an obnoxious arrogant man. Well done Karen foe challenging him and standing up to such a bully? How dare he say what he did in front of millions of viewers. Go Karen!!!!!!!

  8. annette says:

jason is vile and was so disrespectfull to Johnson he should be sacked at once no allowance is being given to Johnson for his disability and yet itv have allowed this to happen karen should replace him now

  9. Jan says:

Agree with all the posts above. Jason G should go!!!! Half his relatives are probably convicts anyway. How dare he criticise anybody when he has the features of a weasel!!!!! He belongs in “Wind in the Willows!!!”

  10. sam m, says:

I think Jason Gardener should be remover from the dancing on ice panel immediately,I have always thought of him as the Simon Cowell of the programme, however he was totally unprofessional and out of order with his comments to Karen, the only person with any experience on ice dance.

  11. lorraine says:

Jason has said (elsewhere) that he can not believe what people are saying and that what he said was right. Come on Jason you’re old enough to know it’s not what you say but how you say it. There is no need to be rude or insulting when you give your opinion.

  12. Chris P says:

Hey, ITV! Stop pandering to Jason. He is obnoxious and arrogant and obviously there to create ratings through his controversial comments. He went too far this week and his egotistical ramblings has just insulted every person in the UK who strives to do better for themselves. Time for him to go and for ITV to rearrange the judging panel to one that the viewing public want to see.

  13. Chris P says:

    …..and get a shave!

  14. Dawn JW says:

What does this small minded man know. Dancing on ice does not need him for the ratings, Jane and Chris are enough. I feel emotional every time Johnson comes on the ice such an achievment for him, three times the man of Jason.

  15. Karli says:

    Jason is such an idiot!!
If Jason knows so much about skating, maybe it’s about time he shut up!!
i think he should make a public apology to Karen

  16. irene says:

jason should make a public apology to both karen and johnson afterall he didnt mind the public hearing his original nasty cheap comments ! He should put his brain in gear before his mouth opens !

  17. Karli says:

i meant to say if Jason knows so much about skating maybe he should get onto the ice!!

  18. Lynne says:

I think Jason is misunderstood. His comments are usually spot on, truthful and honest. I am sure Johnson would not want to be patronised or shown favouritism. Other judges tonight have said equally honest things without the backlash that Jason has to endure. It is a competition after all.

  19. B1G W1LL says:

DAWN JW, you’re so right, Jason is only one millionth of the man Johnson is, he should be ashamed.

And what gives him the credentials to judge these ice skaters, Emma Bunton to, they both make ridiculous comments.

    Bring back Karen and Nicky….

  20. Rick says:

Excellent television! Who really cares. To be honest, all Karen says is that everyone tries hard. We all know that. If you get upset about this kind of thing…. oh dear.

  21. Grahame and Glynis says:

That little man Jason Gardiner is not fit to tie Johnson’s boot laces! He is a real hero who has made fantastic progress in everything he does never mind just ice skating. We should salute Johnson, demand ITV replace Gardiner for his insulting, below the belt comments to Johnson and Karen and get hin off our TV’s. Everyone likes a pantomime baddie but not an arrogant, insulting weasel like him!

  22. katie sutherland says:

Get rid of Jason. I’m going to stop watching the show if he stays. He spoils the whole show with his offensiveness.

  23. Linda says:

Jason’s crossed the line, his comments about Johnson were bad enough but to then be so unprofessional regarding Karen’s position is unacceptable. The whole show is so classy and slick, everyone from the competitors to the audience seem so positive and encouraging…then there’s Jason in his farmer’s bunnett!!!

    He should apologise or go.

  24. B1G W1LL says:

Lynne, there is a difference between honesty and being RUDE.

Jason is a product of his own hype, he wasn’t like this in the earlier series..

ITV should get rid of him, nobody wants to see the obnoxious little @#+? any more.

  25. Lee says:

Jason is totally offensive. This is not the first time. This should be his last offence as ITV should now sack him.

  26. Margaret says:

Jason is clearley using bullying tactics publicly towards karan barber which is not allowed in most workplaces so why is he getting away with it .,sack him

  27. june crowley says:

jason and emma should both be sacked. jason is deliberately nasty and i don’t rate emma at all! itv should have professional judges, i.e. nicky, karen and robin. they are making trashy tv with those two rotten judges on the panel.

  28. Daisy says:

Jason Gardiner’s criticism of Karen Barber in this programme was offensive, disrespectful, abusive and in poor taste. His assertion that Karen Barber is no longer a judge because her opinion is irrelevant shocked me. He seems to think he can get away with this kind of sensational taunt week after week. Didn’t they sack Sky News reporters for making similarly obnoxious comments in private?
The rude, malicious remarks made on air by Gardiner are not at all entertaining and in truth Karen is much more qualified to express am informed opinion on skating than is he. I hope he was handed his cards as he left the studio tonight. If not, ITV should sack him tomorrow at the latest!
We have a Broadcasting Standards Commission so why not complain to them and direct to ITV as well.

  29. TLB says:

Jason, has well and truly over stepped the mark. Therefore, he should be removed from the Show itself. My Children are deeply sadden and upset that he (Jason) should be so vile and bully live on TV. Schools do not stand for this, neither should ITV.
Remember, Johnson gave his ALL…. more that once. Respect must to given and shown. Jason, get on your horse and GO!!!!

  30. lok says:

i think jason was wrong! but only for what he said to karen…. not for what he said to johnson because the man is a terrible skater hero or not

  31. kath says:

this is a family show and there is no place for offensive obnoxious bullies…he should be sacked for his remarks to Karen and good on her for standing up to him. But are ITV brave enough to make the decision to get rid of this odious little man.

  32. Blue says:

I agree with you all get rid of Jason. I never normally complain but he went to far this week, I have emailed ofcom and itv, enough is enough.

  33. andy coller says:

in reply to the comment from lok. Jason Gardiner is arrogant offensive and down right rude and as for you saying that Johnston cannot skate l think this you need to go to an opticians this man nearly lost his life fighting a war and you say he is no hero shame on you. you come down to the same caterogy Jason is in plain ignorant sorry but l think many people on here will agree. Johnston is a hero and always will be thats why he was awarded the Victoris Cross.

  34. Jacky Westoby says:

Oh, come on, everyone-as usual, you only hear what you want to hear-Jason only said the truth about Johnson, that he hasn’t progressed very much-the “journey” he was on about was the skating, not his injurys. As someone else on he said, surely honesty is better than being patronising? Jason wasn’t rude, or cruel-he just spoke the truth, about a very brave man who cannot, let’s be honest, skate. It was the same with Heather Mills last time-do you patronise these people who have special difficulties, or treat them the same as others? The judges are in a difficult position.I quite like Jason, I think he dares to say what the others think but are too scared to say in case they get booed. Karen is too wet for words, sitting there like a mother hen surrounded by her babies-no doubt, now she’s sleeping with the boss, Jason will get chucked off for upsetting her again, but I think that’ll be a great shame. And he did try to apologise, but she wasn’t big enough to accept it, poor fragile little mite.

  35. R Hunter says:

Get rid of Jason – and Emma Bunton and bring Karen and Nicky back to the judges panel – it is a skating show and a panel made up of ex skaters will give the show the credibility it used to have.
When they showed the footage of Johnson’s first steps on the ice tonight – I was so proud of what he has achieved during his time on the show – he has made real progress inspite of the horrific physical and psychological injuries he continues to battle everyday. And he manages to do it all with a smile . Johnson is a hero – and Jason isn’t fit to lace his skating boots !!!

  36. loopy 'L' says:

oh dear R Hunter…a bit harsh on Jason I think! He is a well establised PERFORMANCE ARTISTS and could dance circles around you. He has every right to be where he is as does Karen and Robin as for Emma…less said the better. Jonason has done brilliantly but I am sure he didnt battle to get where he is today to have everyone use it as an excuse for him to stay in the competition. he doesnt want our pitty only our support. :-)

  37. Jenny says:

I agree with Jackie Westoby. I didn’t hear Jason say anything untoward about Johnson. Yes He is a war hero and deserved to be recognised for that but this programme is called Dancing on Ice. It should have nothing to do with what someone has or hasn’t done. It should be about skating.

  38. Jez Sagaris says:

Guess my comments hit some raw nerves there!!!!!! loooool

  39. Herwick56 says:

I agree with Jacky Westoboy, Jason didn’t say anything but the truth and Karen really needs to grow up….It is called dancing on ice, Jason must give his critique and Karen needs to accept it… Johnson knows his capabilities….. people do get carried away… watch and listen again….

  40. Railman says:

Reading some of these, some people here need to learn the meaning of respect aswell. Johnson is at least 1,000,000x the man Jason sniveling Gardiner ever will be and good for Karen Barber for sticking up for him, Robin Cousins should be ashamed of himself for not saying something aswell, after all he is head of the judges panel. If you feel strongly about this complain to ofcom as I have.

  41. Sevvysgirl says:

I do think the producers of DoI knew exactly what they were doing by employing Jason Gardiner – the confrontation between him & Karen Barber was exactly what they wanted – the culmination of many weeks (& previous series)of ‘build up’! However, that in itself is wrong; it shows society’s ever-diminishing standards if it deems to be acceptable to sink to these levels for ‘entertainment’. Clearly ITV were only too happy to show the ‘fallout’ again in the playback session – they weren’t exactly trying to be discreet about it!! Having said all of that, I do feel Karen Barber should have stayed on as a judge if she truly did want her opinion to count. Yes, Jason was wrong & clearly over-stepped the mark but, in fairness to him, he did apologise on air & Karen, once again, refused to listen. Karen has her place & so does Jason … What’s wrong is the whole format of the programme & the producers who allow all involved too much freedom of speech. Karen is right to be defensive about contestants but she does tend to take things rather too personally. Jason can be insensitive at times & rather OTT in his comments (but, as said before, that’s what he’s there for – the producers need ‘the bad guy’ to counteract the ‘softer’ comments.) I don’t think Jason was being disrespectful re Johnson’s progress (he’s clearly aware of his injuries & not belittling anything he’s done other than the standard of his actual skating which, after all, is what the show’s about!!) :-)

  42. Aorgirl says:

Musings after 6th feb show. Put Jason on the ice so we can all have a laugh. Johnson isn’t as skilled as some of the others but this is not criticising (i teach skating) and doesn’t mean I don’t have respect for what he did during the war. Karen shouldn’t have taken Jason’s bait. Bunton is a waste of space. Why are Jane and Chris not dancing? So what if Karen is spending time with Chris? Neither Chris nor Robin have any say in how the show is run – itv are in control and can demote or sack who they want. No I don’t like the new format but will I continue to watch? Yes but only on catch up tv as better programmes now clash. Anyway I seem to have this unrelenting desire to chronicle human folly. Will i complain to ofcom and itv? No point. End of musing.

  43. Leanne says:

Jacky Westoby – It is not an apology if you then go on to attempt to justify what you did. Jason tried to justify what he said to her, so he didnt actually apologise.

Jason is there to give constructive criticism, not dish out personal insults and be generally cruel and nasty, which he does every week. It’s really spoiling the show now.

  44. Bewoodsy says:

Jason was right to say what he did. Johnson is no skater and has no eloquence on the ice. He is a hero in People’s eyes but let’s not forget this is a competition.
Many are saying that Jason is not qualified to be on the panel….look again, he is there to review their performance and how they present themselves, not how they skate.Robin is there for that . Jason says it how it is… Good for him!

  45. Tracy says:

I wont be watching anymore, what should be a good entertaining evening for families, turns into a slanging match. Who does Jason think he his? I`m sorry but me and my family watched for the skating not the insults flying and the pregnant lady stood in between trying to calm things down, should be called Sunday Night Brawl!!!!!

  46. Sarah says:

I must have been watching a different programme last night from a lot of the people here!!!! JG wasn’t rude ABOUT Johnson, but he was very rude TO Karen and then failed to manage to get off his plateau to even manage a decent apology which he had obviously been told to do. Even then he tried to justify his nasty comments.

  47. Jack Harvey says:

Let us all stop voting until the truly obnoxious Jason goes. . That will hit the producers who endorse this disgusting individual where it hurts most.Jason is hugely diminishing the show’s appeal and it is uncomfortable to watch

  48. liz gatehouse says:

Jason apologised and then was even ruder last night!!! He needs to publically apologise to both Karen and Johnson. he ruins Dancing on Ice for many people. There is critism and then there is down right bullish behaviour. This is not the example we want for young people watching. Celebraties have a responsibility to set a good example

  49. mazboy says:

Am I the only one who thinks the whole thing was stage managed!!!

  50. andy coller says:

Call that an apoligie haha grinning all the time while doing it. Ignorant git that he is . Sky sacked one commenntator for speaking rudly while off air this was on air. Karen Barber gave up her place on the panel to concentrate on the skaters. Wat does Jason know about Skating nothing go back to wat you used to do dressing
men. Stop critizing others and take a long lingering look at your self if you have the time. MIGHT HELP

  51. Fifi says:

I was extremely appalled at the true insults that Jason Gardiner spoke in a very, very personal and offensive manner. Karen was responding to a question put my Holly NOT Jason therefore he could have made a point but not as directly, personal and offensive. He should be sacked. Surely they are both paid by ITV (though they have different roles) therefore they are equals and being disrespectful and rude (to say the least) towards another member IS NOT part of the deal.

To say that he apologised it is misleading – as he fell very short… In other words, he was not man enough to apologise properly; this episode has put a very sour taste on such a lovely family proggramme. It is a shame.

I truly hope ITV sack him; in the past I always respected his views (so it is not as if I never liked him which I did) but this should never happen. I also felt very disappointed that Holly and Phillip did not say something themselves. In fact I was disappointed that they tried to portray it as “Fighting” in a joking/playful way; there was NOTHING jokingly or playful about it at all.

  52. Maureen says:

I dont know what Jason or Emma are doing on the judging panel, neither of them know their ass from their elbow when it comes to skating.Bunton was crap when she was in the spice girls and shes crap now and has for Gardiner have you seen him do a fashion make over, i wouldnt want him to pick my shroud.
R Hunter you are so right, get rid of them

  53. Jackie R says:

I thinki Jason Gardiner was completely bitter and vile on Sunday. He should go back to fashion which is best for him. Johnson has made a massive recovery from virual death and Jason just does not seem to appreciate this, unfortunately hs wicked tongue has been loose

  54. ADRIAN LEWIS says:

I along with many 1000′s of other’s won’t be turning on to watch Dancing on Ice next week or any other week, as long as Jason Gardener is still on the judging panel.
He is a pathetic little load mouth, arrogant, ignorant, disrespectful, with no knowledge about the talent he is supposed to be judging. ITV, in trying to create another Simon Cowell, ( By the way, Simon is intelligent, while Jason has no brains and no manners)have shot themselves in the foot, and totally destroyed what was otherwise a good program.

I now make this appeal to all the product advertisers who sponsor and support this show.

You are harming your reputation by letting your product be associated with a show that tollorates and supports the sort of behavior we witnessed from Jason Gardener on Sunday night, he is rude, and ignorant, Please withdraw your advertising orders for this program while jason remains on the judging panel. ITV Take note !!

  55. Pauline-NoRudenessPlease says:

If Jason wasn’t so personal in his remarks I would respect him more. There is really no need to be so rude. I gasped when he made the remark to Karen that if she any good then she would have been still been on the panel. I don’t why he didn’t just add “nah, nah, nah, nah nah!!!” He is truly an obnoxious individual…..
I would not have accepted his insincere apology either…
Grow or Jason or ship out!!!!

  56. Dee Ellis says:

There is no doubt that Jason is an extremely talented dancer, however he has no qualification to judge this programme. Dancers have great discipline, however Jason doesn’t bring this to the show. He was completely disrespectful to a colleague and has no ability to bridle his tongue and stop it running away with him. He doesn’t live inside of Johnston’s body so he can’t say it’s been a ‘small journey’ for him – only Johnston and the coaches know what he’s had to overcome to get him to where he is now. He lacks emotional intelligence and Karen was right to lambast him for being rude to her.The difference between Simon Cowell and Jason is that Simon learned very quickly that being popular and likeable is the best career move.So when he moved to the US, he soon changed his image. The womanising was replaced by a ‘steady’ in Terri, then the Mr Nasty comments were replaced with honest but constructive feedback. Maybe Jason should re-think his career strategy!

  57. Ally Cooper says:

All that’s really noticed is Jason, but every talent show needs an honest judge, that’s not afraid to criticise. However, this was a step too far and unacceptable, not just what was said to Johnson, or to Karen, but the way it was said as well.
When it comes to judging though, Dancing on Ice has to be different to the other shows, doesn’t it? I think, just regular integer scores, out of 10 is needed. What’s wrong with that anyway?
Furthermore, Jason isn’t the only judge there that’s doubted. What knowledge does Emma Bunton have on skating? It’s similar to when Strictly got rid of Arlene for Alesha; a younger face. But the BBC had some sense in this, Alesha had won this competition and also done many performances, even if not ballroom and more music video. Bunton has not appeared on the show, nor shown an understanding of the skating.
So, what’s really in need of consideration here? Many of the elements of the show just don’t add up – fix this ITV

  58. Tamayah Durham says:

Jacky Westoby: Good to see SOME people were actually WATCHING and LISTENING! It doesn’t matter how many medals Johnson has – this is a bloody SKATING contest! I’m quite sure Mr Beharry doesn’t WANT to be patronised by Barber OR Bunton!

Jason Gardiner did not say one nasty word against Johnson. He critiqued a PERFORMANCE – and that’s exactly what he is there to do! What are his qualifications? Oh! He’s ONLY a WORLD CLASS CHOREOGRAPHER AND DANCER. He NEVER critiques skating unlike Emma Bunton who was talking about “Technical aspects” and “lines” the other week. She hasn’t a bloody SCOOBY what she’s on about!

As for Jason’s non-apology to Barber. Excuse me? I’m sure I heard the words “I apologise – I over-stepped the mark”! He also said what a few of us were thinking – Barber IS too emotional and she doesn’t listen to anybody else. That was her problem when she WAS on the panel. Coach and judge didn’t work. She’s far too close to the contestants to be entirely objective and her performance last night proved that. She heard what she WANTED to hear, not what was actually SAID!

  59. cayasm says:

Jason did over step the ark..however he is a professional dancer appearin in many west end productions for years so he is qualified to give opinions on performance, and usually he’s spot on.

I don’t like the changes they ade to the show this year it used be set up like judges scoring in real competitions.

Everyone seems to forget that they all scored Johnson a 4.0
and yes he is a war hero which has nothing to do with his performance on the show for which he is being judged.

The producers of the show should ensure that pannelists have set protocols in how they comment, also it didn’t need Philip Schofield constantly referencing the whole thing as it just took more away from the contestants with his snide comments.

Jason before on Next weeks show before they start should make a proper apology without snide remarks about Karens emotional state(which is sometimes irritating).

The show should be about the skaters not the pannel.

  60. David C says:

It is not really important who his offensive remarks are about, its just that he has started to appear as a nasty little man. What sort of show would we have without celebs trying this difficult sport, but I dare say it wouldn’t really notice if he was replaced

  61. Lollipop says:

How anyone can justify or condone this vile, nasty man’s comments is completely beyond me. It’s reported that over 3000 people have complained to ITV about Gardiner’s appalling behaviour last Saturday – and 600 so far to Ofcom. Will anything happen? Probably not. ITV seems perfectly content to allow Gardiner’s continual bullying and humiliation of contestants and to provide dreadful role models for our young people. My estimation of ITV had actually begun to rise because of the high quality drama they’ve been proeducing of late – but frankly DOI sickens me – Jason Gardiner sickens me and so I’m going to vote with my feet and just switch to another channel now. This episode last Saturday has also coloured my judgement of Philip Schofield who apparently has said that Gardiner is a friend and played the whole thing down. Robin Cousins is a joke of a head judge because he will back anything his friend says. The whole thing is ridiculous……

One last thing, Johnson Beharry is a hero – he sustained his injuries when he was at war, keeping the rest of us safe. He deserves our utmost respect.

  62. Melissa says:

No one disagrees that Johnson is a war hero no one taking that away from him. People are letting there personal opinion of Jason get In the way he was not nasty to Johnson he not a good skater he no that so where the offence? People complain to offcom after every programme it pathetic don’t watch it and I bet most these comments are off people who didn’t watch programme but read about then watched and complained they were offended like so many other cases don’t let ur kids watch it.

  63. Gina says:

Jason is Total Pig!!! We need to get him fired for his repeatedly Rude,Horrible and Direspectful comments and attitude he makes me Sooooooooo angry!! What sort of an example is he setting to young people watching??!!! A complete Arse who needs bringing down waaaay more than a few pegs!! AAAARGH!

  64. jo says:

All Jason brings is negativity, his comments aren’t even constructive, they are destructive!!I doubt that he would have the balls to do what Johnson has done and gone through! As my Nan always used to say,@If you have nothing nice to say, Don’t say anything at all!!’ So Jason Keep your gob shut!!

  65. Tezza says:

    Just sack the horrible man

  66. Tezza says:

Must admit Emma Bunton obviously doesn’t know what’s she’s talking about and usually picks up on what the others have said.
