Dancing On Ice Results 9th January 2011 – Angela Rippon and Nadia Sawalha leave – Laura Hamilton saved
Angela Rippon and Nadia Sawalha have become the first two celebrities to be voted off Dancing on Ice.
The pair ended up in the bottom three alongside Laura Hamilton and after the skate off, the public thankfully chose to save the most talented skater.
At 66 years old Angela was the eldest contestant taking part in the ITV series. She and her partner Sean Rice performed a slow (and slightly wobbly) routine earlier this evening to Etta James ‘At Last’. After her routine, for which she was scored 11 out of 30, Emma Bunton said:
I think I was actually going to give you a higher score but I saw a couple of trips and that put me off.
On hearing she was leaving this evening Angela admitted:
I am gutted! I’ve had a wonderful time and I think it’s been tremendous learning to skate with world class teachers like we’ve had, with Chris and Jayne, with Karen and with Sean.
Former Eastenders star Nadia and British skating professional Mark Hanretty performed their routine to ‘Proud Mary.’ It was fun and full of personality but unfortunately there wasn’t much skating going on. After she performed Jason Gardiner said:
Nadia I wouldn’t say I’m entirely happy. It started off with great potential and then you started to move on your own and your legs looked like they were anaesthetised, they looked numb.
On hearing her fate, Sawalha lamented:
I’m going to miss everybody but what I’m most gutted about is that Mark Hanretty is the most beautiful skater and he’s been holding me up so no one saw how beautiful he is.

They were probably unlucky, as one or two more could easily have been in the skate off, but I’m glad Laura stayed (even though I don’t know who she is – celebrity???)
My main concern though is the judges. Why are Karen Barber and Nicky Slater not on the panel? Karen is still coaching, but Nicky has gone. I understand that Jason and Emma have their place (I think) but how can there be only one judge with skating expertise? It devalues the whole show for the audience. We want to hear the skating experts evaluations of the celebrities efforts. Not sure I will carry on watching this series.
I would rather Johnson be voted off with Angela as I dont believe he will go very far in the competition, but nADIA ‘S PERSONALITY , and her potential to develop would have made me more inclined to watch future programs. Ice was better than expected, but I would like to see next weeks group before I pick my favourite. Where has Nicky gone?? What is Emma doing on panel? being a Spice girl does not qualify her!!!!!!!!! get a female skater on the panel bye Emma, the public appreciate expertise.
Who is going to watch this drivel now? Only one ice skater on the panel, a failed spicegirl who has done NOTHING since, and a wannabee Simon Cowell who`s only contribution is a series of destructive comments, and this is from someone who cannot do ANY of e required skating moves.
I have always watched this show, but now they have second rate skaters with nonentities as partners…..never again
I will not watch any more shows. We see far too much of the presenters and there is too much noise from the crowd. I watch carefully last night – for the last time – that the crowd roared even when the ‘celebrity’ was skating in a straight line.
I am so very dissapointed wiht this years show.I will not be watching it again there is to much noise and shouting. I dont even know who most of the stars are. There are to many adverts and the waitting for the results are to long. I have watched it every year but not this year.
