Dancing On Ice’s Jason Gardiner tells One Direction they don’t ‘cut it’

The Dancing On Ice judges are used to Jason Gardiner berating them week in, week out, after all they knew what he was like before they signed up for the ITV show, however we don’t expect that the One Direction boys thought he would one day turn his caustic tongue on them.

The Australian choreographer is well known for his straight talking ways and has caused many a controversy with his insults and jibes on the ice skating programme.

He was even sacked for a year because of his behaviour, only to be invited back for the most recent series, after the ratings fell.

At the weekend Jason took a number of his god children for an outing. He bought them tickets to go and watch One Direction, as Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan opened their Take Me Home tour in the O2 Arena.

Before heading to the concert Jason tweeted:

“Having such a brilliant sleepover with my god kids. Then we’re all off to 1D concert tomorrow at 02!! They are giddy with glee”

He added:

“A very excited god daughter has woken very early to curl her hair and put finishing touches on her posters for #1D Concert in three hours!!”

We are pretty sure that the children probably enjoyed the gig, but Jason found it a bit lacking and offered his professional opinion afterwards saying:

“1D boys can really sing! Sounding good lads. But a whole concert of them milling about just doesn’t cut it in O2″

Luckily for the X Factor stars, their fans disagreed and one tweeted:

“i was so lucky to be a part of the first night of @onedirection second world tour! truly amazing night at the o2! woo #TMHTour”

Some even did it more than once and another Directioner wrote:

“Had such a good night lastnight, @onedirection were amazing as per usual, now standing outside the o2 waiting to do it all again with”

At 35 I consider myself too old to be a directioner, but I like 1D and – much to the amusement of my friends and family – decided to get tickets to see them at the O2. I went last night and, being really honest, I was inclined to agree with Jason. I was so impressed by how strong they were vocally – all 5 of them sounded really good – and they spent the entire night thanking the fans for supporting them, spending their hard earned cash coming to see them etc, which was very sweet and humble. The thing about them is, though, that they haven’t really got what you’d call star quality, they are just 5 normal boys plonked on stage at the O2. Whilst I realise this is part of their charm, as they don’t dance or have any backing dancers or acrobats I felt they needed to do more with the production – maybe have themed sections or something – as I found it a bit slow in places. They couldn’t create interest with the costume changes (like you can with female artists), either, as they were just changing into another pair of jeans and a different t shirt. They didn’t even arrive with much of a fanfare, they sort of just wandered on. I enjoyed myself but, although the boys themselves were excellent, I thought the show could’ve been improved upon. Most of the 20,000-strong crowd seemed delighted with their performance, though, and true fans won’t have been bothered by these things in the least.

Sir….Jason, if you will…I don’t know if you know this, but the fact that One Direction are always “milling about” during they’re concerts is one of the MAIN reasons we love them! They’re functional in a dysfunctional way. :)
