Donal MacIntyre Begs Council To Build Him An Ice Rink

Dancing On Ice runner up Donal MacIntyre, has begged his local council to build him a new ice rink so he can continue to practice his skating.

A famous rink where Torvill and Dean once practised was knocked down and never rebuilt, a fact which leaves Donal devastated.

Donal, who lives in Richmond, South West London, told The Sun: “Many people started their careers there, including all the judges on the show — all have fond memories.

“The ice rink was knocked down and replaced by riverside flats, and not rebuilt, which was the plan.”

It would be wonderful to have Richmond Ice Rink back. Before the war my father, Bill Davies 1915 – 2007, used to be involved in Ice Shows there. He was a speed skater and did barrel jumping in the show. He went on to represent England at winter games held in Switzerland. He used to take me to Richmond Ice Rink as a child and dash round the rink holding my hand. I never learnt to skate on my own, but loved being hauled round at speed!
