Got To Dance 2012 results: Antics & Mya McDade aka Sweet Surprise win live semi final

Got To Dance semi-finalists Antics

In tonight’s third live semi-final for Sky 1HD’s Got To Dance, dance act Antics and Sweet Surprise have won their place to compete in the live grand finale on March 4th 2012, moving one step closer to winning the quarter of a million pounds cash prize.

Hosted by Davina McCall, Got To Dance has scoured the nation for Britain’s best crews, troupes and solo dancers of all styles and ages. On the judging panel are three dance experts – Ashley Banjo leader of Diversity, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Adam Garcia, tap dancer extraordinaire and movie actor. Six acts battled it out tonight for two spots in the live final, but it was Antics & Sweet Surprise who won over the hearts of the nation, winning the public vote.

Antics – a self-taught street crew who live in different cities leaving little time to rehearse. Of Antics performance, the judges said:

Ashley Banjo: Guys, I stood up because you guys are a class act. Even with all the humour and all the jokes, you still bring that hard dance. You kind of encapsulate it all and that is really really hard to do. It’s because you are so inventive, nothing is generic, no generic flips. You’ve carved a really strong identity with two performances. It’s so hard to stand out in the street world, we’ve seen hundreds of crews and I know exactly who you are and what you are about and you did it all in the face of Matt being injured.

Kimberly Wyatt: You guys are so dope. Talk about having the whole package, you tick all the boxes. You’ve got swagger, you hit it hard, you are smooth! You’ve got transitions and the comedic feel. I mean serious gold.

Adam Garcia: We all stood up guys, you have that light and shade and you are just super entertaining. You make people laugh and then have this hard hitting dance too and you have all facets of street dance. Got to be gold.

Sweet Surprise – a seven year old contemporary dancer who could be Glasgow’s answer to Shirley Temple! Of their performance, the judges said:
Kimberly Wyatt: Now that’s the type of performance I was looking for, you are a little rock star. The fact that you can take on so many different styles of music and bring it to life the way you do, you are such a find. So please vote for this one because you so have to be in the final.
Ashley Banjo: I want to tell you something, you are seven! And as an expressionist and a performer, in my opinion you are the best we have. You are unbelievable and I am completely blown away by that. You just fill up the stage with energy and you are so small! Oh My God, I want to see you in the final so so much.

Adam Garcia: How can I add to that? In the auditions I said you were my favourite and you are still my favourite. Anyone that can go ‘shhhh’ and the entire audience goes ‘sorry’ and then you go rock and roll and they all go rock and roll, you have to be in the final.

The acts who also competed this week: Brosena, Olivia, Lil Hustlers and Supermalcolm.

Six more acts from the Final 30 will each take to the stage next week, as they battle it out for the fifth and six place in the Got To Dance grand finale, in front of 6,000 people at London’s Olympia on Sunday, March 4th at 6pm on Sky 1HD.
