Simon Cowell Will Stage Grease Is The Word On ITV

Grease Is The WordITV has today unveiled its latest collaboration with Simon Cowell. In a brand new primetime entertainment series, ITV will be staging the biggest casting call the UK has ever seen to find the starring roles of Sandy and Danny for a new stage production of the worldwide hit musical Grease which will open in London’s West End in 2007.

ITV will be filling summer nights with the search for two unknown performers to take the highly coveted roles of Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko. ITV today confirmed that the UK’s leading theatre producer, David Ian, will be a judge on the show and will also be producing the West End version of the stage show, together with producing partner Paul Nicholas.

Simon Cowell said: “We’ve been thinking about making this programme for years. Grease in my opinion is the best musical of all time and I am incredibly excited to be given this opportunity.”

Duncan Gray, Controller of Entertainment at ITV said: “Grease and ITV are a perfect fit the hunt for the new Sandy and Danny to star in the world’s best known musical produced by the crack team behind the X Factor.”

I really hope that ITV can handle this show as well as the BBC handled the earlier search for a West End Star in ‘How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria’

    Hi Jemma,

I was in the same group as you yesterday, and I agree it all kinda felt like a waste of time. I was seen by a reseacher and someone I assume was a producer. When I sat outside, I heard some fab people and no one went through, which was a real shame. xx

hi guys if u r going back 2 london this week sing crap and im sure u will get though its so unfair all the goods ones were cut if this is reality tv i dont want 2 b part of something like that.i was going 2 do xfactor but a girl that was there said its the same there all thay want is 2 make good tele so they put poeple in who cant sing,or who look strange.i feel 4 those as when they get to judges they r slated and r so upset.good luck to u all.x

  3. polly says:

it sounds rather scary! did anyone get through to grease academy? x x x

  4. John Boy says:

Sounds a bit dodgy thats really not what i wanted to hear! My audition is at 8am on friday i’m gonna have to get up and leave at like 3am to get to London on time is it going to be worth it?!!

  5. caron says:

Now I’m really panicking. I dont know whether to bother going now! John Boy, you will be fine, you obviously have the looks and the voice, so they won’t be able to slate you. Worried about myself though, cos as you know I’m older than the rest of you, and I think I’m one of the ones that has got through because of exactly what Donna says, that I will make the programme more interesting cos I will look a total misfit!!! Dont know whether I’m up for being humiliated..See you at 8am on Friday if I decide to go. Love Caron xx Good luck everyone xx

  6. John Boy says:

Caron Your definitly going!! You have nothing to worry about, yes you may be slightly older than some of the other girls auditioning but your no way a misfit! I remember when i first saw you thinking how much u look like Olivia newton there was just a spark about u i knew u’d get thru! remember olivia was in her 30’s when she played sandy! Hows every1’s dancing going? Ive just bin doing mine im really knackered now i think ive seriously pulled some muscles in my legs!!

  7. caron says:

Thanks john, you have made me feel so much better already. I have just been doing my dance routine. I’ve picked hung-up by madonna, but its all music for the first 60 seconds, the vocals start at exactly 61 seconds!! Still, its done now, just hope I can remember the whole routine, I get halfway through and then my mind just goes completely blank and I stand there like a rabbit caught in the headlights!! Back aches, legs aches, arms ache….probably wont be able to move by Friday!!See you there!!

  8. Jemma says:

They seemed to let the older ones through, Im only 17 and they were saying they were looking for someone older for Sandy (maybe because of Olivia’s age…I dont know) Sorry for putting you off, but go and try and see for yourself!
    All the best! Jem xxxx

  11. caron says:

Thanks everyone, I am going down tonight. I wonder if we havent heard from anyone who has got through because they have been told to keep it quiet until the programme airs……That might be the case. Good luck everyone, dance your socks off and sing your heart out! Love and kisses, Caron……
p.s donna, well done for getting as far as you did, I’m 39, so we are both the same age xx

  12. Howard says:

I just wanted to say good luck to everyone taking part in the next round! my second audition was supposed to be in London yesterday but I came down with a really bad throat infection monday morning and couldn’t even speak by wednesday…I can’t even begin to explain how gutted I am. I think the most annoying thing about it was getting people to ring the grease team for me 4 or 5 times yesterday to see if I could go today or tomorrow, they kept promising they’d call back but they never did :o (

  13. louise says:

hello i didnt make it through the london audition but it was a great experienance for me, i knew i wernt gettin threw coz they wer puttin grannys through n i just thought it was a joke as there only prob puttin them threw to have a laugh at them n they shoudnt give them false hope.

  14. louise says:

by the way u only have to dance if you get threw to the celeb judges u dont actually have to dance in ur 1st audition

  15. caron says:

Thought I would just give you an update! I got thru the first part of the audition infront of the programme producers this morning, and then went in front of the celeb judges. I had to sing again, perform my dance routine and there was an acting improvisation. Unfortunately it was the end of the road for me, my nerves cut in and my voice wasnt at its best. David Gest said it could be that I was too old for the role (im 39) so that wasnt a surprise, and they all agreed I was lacking in confidence, something else I could only agree with. None of the judges were rude to me, Sinitta was a real sweetheart and so was David Ian. Overall it was an enjoyable, if not a bit of a traumatic experience!! I wish all you guys who got thru to bootcamp all the very, very best, you have all done amazingly well to get thru! Have a fab time xxxx

  16. John Boy says:

aww bad luck Caron but at least u got to see da celebs!! :) I dont know what happened dis morning i just didn’t perform as well as in Manchester! i only got to do my one song which was Greased Lightnin n i really wanted to do my other! they just didnt take into consideration that i got up at 1am to travel there the least they could of done was let me sing both! I just didnlt feel as relaxed in myself, i suddenly felt really self confident for some reason and i could tell it was visible within my singing. Oh well i suppose it just wasnt supposed to be! i’m not gonna let it put me off im gonna keep going!! :) xxx

  17. caron says:

Its gutting isnt it, but I know exactly what you mean, I became more and more self conscious as the day progressed, and by the time i got infront of the judges, I was just a bag of nerves, and it was very obvious in my voice. David Ian only let me sing the first verse of my first song, and then stopped me and asked me to really concentrate on my confidence and sing it again. So I did, and it was exactly as bad as the first time!! Hey ho!! Like you say, it wasnt meant to be. Very few people went thru to boot camp, I only saw 2 go through and I was there quite a while. Keep going and let me know what else you are going up for….

  18. lee says:

Hey guys! im just home from the airport!
I was just like you john-boy! I didnt sing my best and did a better audition in manchester! i thought the audition was really hard as you couldnt really move about or dance while you were singin! the room was tiny and i lost all my confidence as soon as i walked into the room! i sang my grease song ‘your the one that i want’ and they said i didnt have the right voice! really disapointing! i thought we could have atleast got to dance! its hard to know what they are lookin for??? ah well goodluck to the people who made it to boot camp! it was very tough and well done to those who didnt make it coz its the taking part that counts!
    lots of luv leexxxxxxxx

  19. steph says:

hi guys i also went to the grease audition on friday i was disappointed to see all the old grannies and granddads in wigs getting thru when some really good people were being chucked out, they should have called the programme funny grease auditions for over 40s makes youwonder what there looking for a total waste of time and money

  20. KJ says:

    Hi

Have to agree with you, to me all the people who looked the part and could really sing didnt get through. I only saw one girl who looked like she could play the part of sandy who got through. i was one of the last group to be seen on Friday so i think they had already chosen their people and for us it was just a total waste of time. I have never come out of an audition and called anyone but i am sorry this was a total waste of time

I think they knew whether you were going through to the next round before you even got in the room. I am sorry but i heard someone sing and they did not have a good voice at all, did not look anything like sandy apart from maybe in drag and they got through. then heard people who were brill and looked the part and they got a no.

sorry but if that is reality tv they can have it and i dont want to be a part of it

I feel sorry for everyone who spent the money on their journey and hotels and it was a total waste of time

I dont mind not getting through any audition if i think it is fair but would tell anyone not to go for this sort of thing

good luck to all the people who did get through I am sure there are enough genuine good people who have been chosen and i look forward to watching the show

    take care
    love KJ x

THIS IS SO STUPID! Why are they trying to make the West End so comercial. This is a complete short cut to fame and not fair on actors who have been trying hard all their life to get a principle part.

  26. charley says:

ime so so so so sad why are they trying to make west end so comercial
