Racing pundit John McCruick and his wife Booby were taking no risks when it came to dining at Hell’s Kitchen – they brought their own picnic hamper packed with food including lobster just in case.

It was the second time the couple have dined in Hell – they visited during the previous series and also brought along a hamper then.

Maitre-d Nick relayed the news to Marco at the pass – telling him:”John McCruick - he actually brought his own hamper with him in case he didn’t get fed.”

Nick told Marco that John wanted the starter of Consomme of Wild Mushrooms and Truffle En Croute but without the pasty.

But Marco replied: “Can’t do it. He can remove it. Tell him to have his hamper.”

Nick then went back to tell John that if he wanted to dish he would have to remove the pastry himself

John decided to order the dish anyway and when it arrived he removed the pastry and declared: “It’s only half full. Look at this and how greasy it is. It’s solid grease.”

Nick explained: It’s the fois gras and truffle oil.

John said: “I don’t like truffle oil. Anyway I tried.”

Nick then took to dish back to the pass and told Marco: “I explained to him about the truffle oil and fois gras.”

But Marco wasn’t impressed and Nick returned to the table to tell John: “I’m sorry John he’s not serving any more food this evening. Enjoy your lobster.”

John replied: “We’ll take our lobster home. No wonder we bought this.”

On another table Bonnie Langford wished she had chosen another dish after she found a hair in her fish. But when Nick tried to take the plate away to go and tell Marco a mortified Bonnie said: Don’t do that it’s gorgeous, fine.

But fellow diner and Dancing on Ice judge Jason Gardener said: “Send it back there’s a hair.”

Meanwhile a table of celebrity chefs were much more impressed with their meal. Nancy Lam said her meal was great and added: “Very sexy mashed potato.”
