Sour Grapes At Hells Kitchen USA

Tonight on Hells Kitchen saw a roller coaster of emotions for mother of six Elsie.

The day got off to a good start when Gordon Ramsey set the contestants challenge. He presented each of them with a tray of leftover food and gave them 15 minutes to come up with a dish which used as much ingredients as possible while still tasting and looking great. While the other three contestants opted for very professional and up market dishes, Elsie in her own usual style went with something that could have came out of her own home kitchen. Traditional Chicken Soup.

Although the other contestants seemed to look down their noses at Elsies creation, it was good enough for Gordon to declare Elsie winner of the task and whisk her off for her prize, a cooking slot on the live national TV show Good Morning America.

While Elsie was gone the other three chefs Michael, Ralph and Jessie huddled together like 3 gossiping housewives and bitched about Elsie all day, the fact that she had been on the winning side of the last 5 consectutive tasks seemed to get under their skin. They and secretly agreed not to carry her in the kitchen that evening. They were true to their word and as cooking got underway Elsie could not rely on any of them for help or advice. Ralph seemed particularly icy as Elsie asked repeatedly where to find an essential ingredient and was blanked by him each time.

Gordon made the evening harder by switching the chefs stations every 30 minutes and Elsie along with the others couldn’t take the pressure. In the end the kitchen was shut down early and Gordon Ramsey declared that either Jessica or Elsie would be leaving that evening.

Not surprisingly it was Elsie, though I thought I saw the start of a tear in Gordons eye. He evicted her in the nicest way he could and stressed how proud he was of her and even told her that her “smile could light up a room”.

The rest of the team were faking some crocodile tears though the joy almost shone through on Ralphs face. They had done their work, they had worked against Elsie all night they stuck together and isolated her in what should have been a closely knit team experience. I just wonder how they will cope next week whe it is one of them that gets left in the cold….watch your back Jessie!
