I actually meant to do a bit of a review of last night’s I’d Do Anything show as soon as it finished , but unfortunately the wine got in the way, so please excuse my tardiness!
When the live show kicked off last week I thought that it would be hard to pick out the front runners as the girls were all so talented, however this week I thought that a few really stood out from the crowd.
The performance of the night had to go to Belfast girl, Rachel Tucker, who sang Christina Aguilera’s ‘Beautiful’. Anyone who has watched the X Factor has heard this song sang at least a million times, but Rachels version was so heartfelt that and real that it blew all the others out of the water. Some people over on our forum thought that her performance was a bit over the top, but I suppose that Rachel is used to acting in a theatre, not on TV, and if you were sitting in the cheap back seats in the Adelphi theatre in Lodon you would really appreciate all that acting!
Some of the other girls that really delivered last night were Jessie, Jodie Francesca. I was glad that Jessie managed to keep her Elvis like snarl in check. When she stood up straight and sang Killing Me Softly I really believed every word. For such a young girl Jessie really does have a lot of talent.
I was glad to see Francesca giving the performance that she should have given last week. I don’t know if this weeks song, Somebody To Love, suited her voice more or if she worked harder at it after being in the bottom two last week, but tonight I really saw Frans potential and I think she will probably do well whether she wins this competition or not.
Jodie is the peoples favourite and I would be very surprised if she doesn’t make it to the final. Tonight she sang I’m Every Woman, and though I hate (!!!!!) this song, I have to admit that she did a good job with it. I don’t know that she will end up as Nancy, I don’t know that she has enough experience, but she is a great belter and very raw and raunchy, she has already won one reality TV show, so I don’t doubt that she will go far in this one too.
The person who disappointed me most on last night’s show was Barry Humphries. What was the BBC thinking in sacking Zoe Tyler and replacing her with an old man who gushes and enthuses about every performance, but offers no advcie or constructive criticism to anyone? Barry may be a nice man, but he’s no judge! He should stick to dressing up as an old woman for a living!
