I’m A Celebrity 2008: Getting Into Camp!
With Joe Swash competing for the camp, Dani Behr, Martina Navratilova, Brian Paddick and George Takei prepare to do a parachute jump for the next leg of their journey.
As Martina and George embrace the challenge, Dani and Brian look on tentatively as the realization of what they are about to do hits home, ‘This is exciting’ admits the tennis champ. Sitting quietly looking out of the window the pensive celebrities get ready to embark on the next stage of their trip into camp.
Martina was the first of the group to jump out of the plane. She ‘crossed’ herself as she jumped and admitted that it felt like an out of body experience, as if ‘somebody else’ had jumped out of the plane.
Commenting on Martina’s jump, George Takei said ‘it looks like a piece of cake.’ The fearless 71 year old actor leapt quickly out of the plane leaving fellow teammate Dani in awe whilst a nervous Brian muttered ‘Shut the door.’
Relaxed and enjoying the experience, George told his instructor ‘what an experience’ You guys have this down to an art . . . fantastic, what a glorious feeling.’
As a nervous Dani realised she was next, she made one final check that her instructor had everything in order. ‘Right you’ve got the parachute, you know where the string is!’
Having landed safely on the ground, Martina commented on fellow celebrity Brian, who was dreading having to do a tandem parachute jump, ‘Brian was nervous because it was the one thing he didn’t want to do.’
As the instructors ask a nervous Brian if he was ok, the ex-Deputy Assistant Commissioner for London Met Police replied reluctantly ‘it’s got to be done’.
Floating Feet
Robert Kilroy-Silk, Esther Rantzen, Carly Zucker and Nicola McLean find themselves having to cross a large lake on floating ‘feet’.
Relieved to be off the helicopter, glamour girl Nicola McLean soon learnt that her trip to the jungle was no walk in the park as she faced with the daunting prospect of trying to walk across water.
“This looks like hard work to me…..I don’t want to do that, I don’t exercise and I can’t promise I won’t fall in.”
Before they could embark on their challenge, the four celebrities faced an agonising choice – who would manoeuvre the two pairs of manual feet; who would use a set of motorised feet; and who would take the boat without a paddle. The celebrity who opted for the motorised feet would also have to tow the boat along.
Nicola and Carly immediately decided they would have the ‘manual feet’, Robert took the motorized feet and Esther was in the boat. With the hardest challenge against them, Nicola and Carly took it in their stride but Robert found himself spending too much time in the water and having fallen in a number of times, promptly gave up swimming to shore, whilst still towing Esther who remained in the boat using Robert’s hat as a paddle!
