Fans of I’m A Celebrity will no doubt recall Charlie Brooks’ anguish when – after failing to win any prizes in the Door to Door jungle challenge – she discovered that had she and her task companion Eric Bristow chosen to open the yellow door, she would have seen her seven year old daughter Kiki…
Soon afterwards, I wrote an article asking if it was cruel to have put Kiki through the task, and of course, many believed that it was, and ITV were roundly criticized for doing it.
However, Charlie of course went on to win the show and during an interview with the Daily Star, Charlie spoke of her joy at seeing her daughter again while her mum Roe revealed that she thinks Charlie’s victory was down to “mum votes” after Charlie missed out on that visit with her little girl.
It’s also been revealed that whenever Charlie spoke about fajitas – she was of course seen weeping saying “I just want fajitas” – it was actually a coded message to her lover Ben Hollington…
More on that in a moment, but first, back to Charlie who began the interview by saying, “Seeing Kiki again is amazing.
“Being jungle queen means she gets to be a princess which is what she dreamed of. I’ve even given her my crown.
“This is the longest I’ve ever been without her. Not seeing her or speaking to her for three weeks was hard.
“When I discovered she was behind that yellow door I couldn’t believe it. I just jumped on a hammock and cried my eyes out.”
Meanwhile, Charlie’s proud mum Roe said, “She got the mum vote on Saturday.
“Mums fell in love with Kiki and saw how Charlie was missing her.”
Back now to those coded messages to Ben, and a friend of his explained to the Mirror that – as mentioned above – whenever Charlie spoke about fajitas, it was so that Ben would know she was missing him.
He told pals, “Every time Charlie mentioned the word fajitas, she was talking about me. It was really sweet and both of us were in on it.”
He added, “It’s been tough being separated for so long.
“I’ve missed her like crazy and this was our idea of trying to bridge all those tens of thousands of miles that we were apart.”
The paper adds, “Charlie screamed with delight when she stepped out of a stretch Hummer and saw Ben who swept her up into his arms, hugging and kissing her. And daughter Kiki cried: ‘There’s Ben! There’s Ben!’”
Aww bless. Here’s a reminder of the moment Charlie was crowned Queen of the Jungle…
