I’m A Celebrity contestant Eric Bristow has revealed in his autobiography that he considered iconic childrens’ entertainer Rod Hull – who spent his working life with his arm up an ostrich puppet – to be a “pervert” who routinely “groped” fans.
Darts champ Eric added that he was once so angered by Hull’s behavior, that he wanted to knock him out!
In his book, The Crafty Cockney, Eric wrote, “I didn’t like Rod Hull. He was a pervert who was getting away with something that wasn’t right.
“He used the puppet to feel up women and stick his hand between people’s legs. It was out of order.”
And while recalling a confrontation backstage on the set of Bullseye – which was hosted by Jim Bowen – Eric said, “We’d all had a drink, perhaps one or two more than we should…
“I went straight up to Hull’s face and said, ‘Now listen, pal. When you come out on set later with that f****** silly bird of yours, if you come anywhere near me with that f****** thing I will knock you straight out, on telly, whether it’s f****** live or not.’
“When Hull came on later he was pulling Jim Bowen all over the place with his stupid Emu, but he didn’t come anywhere near us, he daren’t.
“If he’d touched me inappropriately with his hand I would have sparked him.”
The Sun adds, “Hull drew 11million viewers at his peak with The Rod Hull And Emu Show, before dying broke in 1999 aged 63 after he fell off his roof.”
In the book, Eric also admits to a violent and criminal past, during which he was part of a gang in London’s Stoke Newington. Revealing that he would carry a claw hammer for fights, burgle houses and steal cars, he wrote, “I got in trouble with the police on lots of occasions for thieving or beating people up or stealing cars.
“Darts was my salvation — or I’d probably have ended up in prison or into big-time crime.”
I’m A Celebrity continues tonight, but for now, here’s a clip featuring Rod Hull on Jim’ll Fix It…
