I’m A Celebrity 2012: First Croc Creek Vs Snake Rock team challenge sees Helen Flanagan sobbing!

by Lynn Rowlands

This year’s I’m A Celebrity kicks off tonight on ITV1 at 9pm, but of course, for the celebs taking part it’s already begun, and the very first challenge this year’s crop of contestants saw them thrown in at the deep end in teams of five…

In teams Croc Creek and Snake Rock, the contestants had to race through all manner of scary hurdles and obstacles to avoid being the team who spent the night on an “inhospitable island” with no beds and next to no supplies.

But for former Corrie star Helen Flanagan, who suffers from panic attacks and has several phobias, the whole thing took on a nightmarish quality as she had to cross a canyon on a high wire.

Helen reportedly sobbed as she was suspended high above the jungle canopy for her challenge, while on the ground, the other contestants had to wade through a creek after their canoe overturned…

Helen joined boxer David Haye, comedian Brian Conley, and actresses Charlie Brooks and Linda Robson in team Croc Creek, while MP Nadine Dorries, former Doctor Who star Colin Baker, darts ace Eric Bristow, Made In Chelsea star Hugo Taylor and ex-Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts became team Snake Rock.

The drama began for the celebs when, soon after meeting each other and enjoying fruit cocktails, they were unceremoniously whisked away to what’s described as “a barren, snake and tic-infested island, and deposited on opposite sides.”

With only walking boots, a GPS system and a set of instructions to help them, the teams had to race each other across the island to a helicopter.

The winners were to enjoy one last night of luxury before making their way in to camp, while the losers had to bed down on the island overnight.

You can find out who won in tonight’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here launch show, which as mentioned airs at 9.00pm on ITV1.

We don’t as yet have any clips from the show this year, but here’s a reminder of how last year’s show kicked off…
