It’s been revealed today that footballer Michael Owen has been offered a place in the celeb line-up for the new series of I’m A Celebrity, and though he hasn’t decided what his answer will be as yet, he did confirm that he said ‘No’ to appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this year.
Of being approached to take part in I’m A Celeb – which is of course hosted by Britain’s Got Talent presenters Ant and Dec – Michael said, “I’ve just been asked to do this year’s I’m A Celebrity.
“I got offered to do Strictly before but turned it down…
“If I was ever going to do one it would be the jungle but I would need to be offered a few quid to do it, that’s for sure.”
While speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Michael added, “I would be arguing after two minutes…
“People think I’m a saint so they would be in for a shock.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a lunatic, but I don’t think I would be able to contain my frustration.
“You have to keep a level of professionalism when you’re in the public eye but it would be hard in the jungle.”
However, it could well be that Michael’s just too busy to take time out to head to Australia as he’s currently building up his own horse-racing business, and has plans to feature in a new documentary series.
He said, “I own a 170-acre stables training 90 horses…
“But despite all that I’ve never even been in a horse’s saddle because I was never allowed to ride as a player.
“I’m currently in talks with a couple of broadcasters to film a documentary on me training for a charity horse race.
“It would show me sitting on a horse for the first time, probably at home with my wife and kids, right through to having lessons from famous jockeys like Frankie Dettori, going to racing school and getting the passes to race.
“Then the end idea is for me to race on one of the big days of the racing calendar next summer.”
