Former member of superstar boyband Busted, and now a solo artist, Matt Willis is an unlikely contender for the jungle. He describes himself as unfit, unprepared and quite frankly clueless about what lies ahead!

“I don’t know what to expect! This is one of the best programmes on TV and I love it, but I haven’t watched enough and I am regretting not watching all of the last series.

“I really should have watched a lot more. I remember people running up mud slides trying to get stars and things. I’d just get knackered – I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in preparation. I actually ran for 50 minutes and I feel absolutely f***ed today!

“I don’t know how I will cope; I am a little bit worried. I am no Jungle Jim – more hotel happy – it’s going to be f***ing weird and I will get outrageously bored; that’s what I can’t express enough – and when I get bored I get quite destructive. I have so much energy, but I’m quite lazy so it’s a weird mixture.â€?

It’s fair to say that the upbeat 23 year old is going into the jungle with his eyes closed – particularly as far as any Bushtucker Trial is concerned:

“My worst Bushtucker Trial would be being stuck in that coffin with rats. I just wouldn’t be able to do it. If I shut my eyes for 30 seconds it feels like an hour. I get so bored; 30 seconds of rats crawling over me – that would be too much for me. They are going to bite you and shit aren’t they man, they are not going to be snuggling up to you, are they?

“I hate rats and any weird shit! It all freaks me out; snakes freak me out, spiders freak me out, scorpions freak me out! What are you talking about? – that is a scorpion, one of the most feared animals on the planet – that can kill a f***ing rhino – and there I am getting into f***ing bed with it!

“I don’t know what I am going to do. I’ll eat a shark’s eye or something, I’ll eat the stuff – I can do that. But as for the action I am so unfit, I couldn’t do it, I’ll be knackered.â€?

Matt – who will have girlfriend and MTV presenter Emma Griffiths supporting him – has not even told his mum he is taking part in the show and is using promotions for his new album, [‘Don’t Let it Go to Waste’], which comes out whilst he is in the jungle, as a ruse for leaving the country:

“I haven’t told anyone [I am taking part]I haven’t even told my mum – I am not going to either – she thinks I am in Germany doing promo at that time. She will be stunned. I am telling everyone I am scooting off to Germany before I go so they won’t think any different if they hear a foreign dialling tone – forward thinking!�
