As fans of The Voice will know, partially sighted Irish singer Andrea Begley won the last series, and is currently working on her debut album…
However, the charmingly self-deprecating singer has hinted that she has a “plan B” in case her album fails to do as well as she’s hoping – which was of course a fate that befell former winner Leanne Mitchell – and that is to star on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, who reckon that Andrea is lined up to perform live on Strictly Come Dancing this year, the singer joked, “I’ve said to my friends I could enter the jungle, because I won’t see all the bugs and snakes and things.”
But on a more serious note, Andrea then spoke about not only her album – entitled The Message – which goes on sale on October 21, but also about her autobiography, I Didn’t See That Coming.
Of choosing the humorous title for her book, Andrea said, “I chose the title to show people I don’t take myself too seriously.”
The paper’s reporter adds, “I’ve heard rumours Andrea’s album release has been rushed so the label can concentrate on Voice runner-up Leah McFall.”
There was of course a mixed reaction to Andrea winning as many believed it was a foregone conclusion that Leah would win…
Thing weren’t helped when, soon after Andrea won the show, the Daily Star reported, “Thousands logging on for news about the Irish singer, 26, following her stunning victory were shocked to be greeted by the invite. Surprise…”
Her site stated, “Andrea. The Voice UK winner 2013. She is available for singing at events, weddings and more.”
One shocked fan said at the time, “It makes her sound like a pub singer.
“Can you imagine Leona Lewis, Little Mix and James Arthur doing that after winning The X Factor?”
Do you think that the BBC – and arguably Andrea herself – set the bar way too low after her Voice victory?
For now, here’s a reminder of her in the show’s final…
