Take one litre of engine oil. Apply liberally. A tub of margarine. Slap it all over. Bake for 30 years under a burning sun. And what do you get? A recipe for disaster and a face in meltdown.

Mature architecture student Janice Despard has been in pursuit of a tan for longer than she can remember. Sun beds or the real thing, she’s not fussy and coming from Glasgow, sun bed capital and spiritual home of deep frying, it’s not surprising that a poll of 100 students put 43-year-old Janice at 55.

A bit of nip and tuck will renew her ageing façade. But it’s not just the lines on her face that are dragging her down. An uninspiring wardrobe made up entirely of denim is doing this former window dresser no favours. Little ray of sunshine Nicky Hambleton-Jones will show Janice that there’s life beyond jeans and introduce her to the concept of a dress and everything else a well-dressed girl needs, to stay on top for the new Spring season.

If like Janice you’re a tan junkie desperate for a fix, 10 Years Younger will show viewers how to get that sun-kissed look without trashing their skin. But will the restoration work be enough to drop a decade?
