Aled Jones Appears On Play It Again

Aled Jones swaps his choir-boy image for that of a rock drummer as the series in which celebrities are taken out of their comfort zones as they experience the highs and lows of learning to play a musical instrument continues.

Aled shot to fame as a boy soprano, best known for singing Walking In The Air, the song from the animated film The Snowman. Now he is a best-selling classical artist as well as a television and radio broadcaster but, having been a singer all his life, he fancies a change and wants to bash the drums.

Aled takes up his drumsticks under the tutorage of professional musician Erik Stams at the London rock school Drumtech. After just two weeks of learning, he puts on his first live public performance at the rock school when he plays Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way? with a band.

Initially, Aled becomes obsessed and cannot stop playing the drums and even starts losing weight. But when it comes to learning Led Zeppelin’s Rock ‘n’ Roll to play in a pub with a tribute band, Led Zep Too, Aled hits a stumbling block because of his technique. Inspired after meeting The Police’s Stewart Copeland, Aled is soon fired up and working up to a live performance with a huge-selling artist.

    Hello Tabbykat,

That sounds like great fun. I hope Aled enjoys himself.

BTW Aled was not the original boy Treble to sing ‘Walking on the Air’ for the film, even though he had the hit with it.

Can’t remember for the life of me though who sang the original? ? ?
