American Idol 2013: Show boss wants vote ranking
The executive producer has been keen to introduce the format for some time and previously did the same when he worked on UK show Pop Idol.Speaking at a press conference, he said: “It’s very amusing to me because it’s something that we’ve wanted to do for eight, nine years.
“We did it in England with Pop Idol and I had always been stopped from doing it in this country with people saying, ‘Oh no, people will stop voting if you show that one person is winning’, like a Carrie Underwood who won every week.”
And Nigel is upset he didn’t introduce the format on American Idol before bosses of The X Factor USA after they brought it in on the second series.
He said: “All of a sudden they managed to do it on The X Factor, so I was a little, you know, ‘Damn it, now it looks like we’re going to be copying them.’ And the one thing I believe about American Idol is everyone copies American Idol.
“But yes, I thought it was a good move. I thought it was a good move from when we first came here. I think it doesn’t stop people voting. I think it makes people more passionate to see their person do well, so I liked it.”
