Thanks Maureen. If someone has been on a show like “Let me entertain you” before, does it means they cannot take part in this show?
My son was one of thousands who auditions and was picked for the first series. There were only 100 who got through. Just wondering if it means “Britains got talent” is off limits for him.
Hello A Mum,
Normally auditionees are not allowed to take part in opposing channel shows at the same time. As a split allegiance is not feasible. The majority of people who audition for shows on a regular basis rarely read the small print in what they sign. A regular auditonee especially those 16+ 18 and above etc looking for work look to what is ‘designated as reasonable in law’ i,e the unemployed have a responsibility to look for work.
The producers of these shows become accustomed to familiar faces and know that as we live in desperate times, only because new talent is failing to come through the grapevine via the ‘LONG AND WINDING ROAD’ you’d have seen this in the BRITS last night as the same acts are put forward for awards year in and year out and very little that is new or fresh is coming through.
Therefore the rules for any reality TV programme at the auditonee stage can be and is regularly bridged. However, this bridging will only be tolerated at the initial stage ie ‘open audition’ and if someone looks like having a strong chance of going further they would have to tie off and end all dealings with the other concerns prior to the televising of the show. Failing to tie off these possible contract connections can disqualify an entrant.
A note worthy of bearing in mind as with the fiasco of the X factor group ‘avenue’ being disqualified, it is possible these rules may become more enforceable.
As a parent if you sign for a child a person considered below the age of 16, you are not deemed to be an expert on these matters so therefore any clauses to the contrary may exempt you.
Ooo now here comes a real sticky wicket, if someone is offered a contract by two opposing channels say ITV and BBC each would negate the other if they came through at exactly the same time. If there was a gap of say three months and you could reasonably close all ties beyond it, the first contract that comes through should really be taken.
However, if the contract 2 had engaged in all of the marketing promotion and televising of the auditionee and contract one came through with an offer based upon the opposing channels work, a lawsuit would be in order. And the auditionee also sued and possibly blacklisted from all other areas of television work. IN LAW THIS IS KNOWN AS POACHING.
So your son has been to the auditions from “Let me entertain you”?
Which channel or production company was this for and how long ago did this take place?
Have you read the small print particularly restrictions?
Did anything come through in relation to contracts or work gained as a result of “Let me entertain you”.
You do not need to answer these questions I have only placed them there to set you thinking. This website has nothing to do with any of the programmes advertised in the blogs or the forums. We are a really friendly bunch who like helping each other out.
So if this ‘Let me entertain you’ was a year ago, the restriction was not auditioning for another show with an opposing channel, lets say your son did not appear in the televised heats of the programme and no forthcoming offers of work came through ( to which the TV company may have been entitled to a percentage etc)and your son has now applied for BRITAINS GOT TALENT.
Off hand I’d say he was at liberty to audition again.
Hope this helps.

Hey all!!
My name is Melissa and I am 13 yrs old. I entered for the nationals dance (ISTD) in 2005 and 2006 and I came first both years. I have qualified for this years nationals and it is approaching in October.
I am doing a dance for Britain’s Got Talent and I just want some advice from anyone who has done a dance yet in a previous audition or something, because I am like reallllly nervous. I really love dancing, but everyone here seems to be singing. I think I can sing, but I am a better dancer.
To all those people who have auditioned well done =D and to all those auditioning – Good Luck!!
And also can I ask, who is like the main person here – I am not sure and I just want to know what time I should get to London coz my audition time is at 3.00pm
Love x
hi, i have an audition at Manchester on 1st March. I’m really nervous and I just want to go to find out what they think of my voice. I was wondering if anyone can help me and answer these questions. On the first audition who will I perform infront of and who are the judges? Where do the audience come into it? xx sam xx
sorry i mean stressed*
Hello A Mum,
I’m pleased to have been of help.
If you personally think your son needs a better song and you can afford to take him to a proper singing teacher it may be worthwhile.
There are a number of reasons why auditionees fail…
one is not being prepared enough as this wastes time,
two is trying to do a song that is too difficult and not succeeding with it,
three is being over confident to the extent it is preventative of progress and you therefore have nothing left to learn, in other words people who try to help you are made to feel inferior.
The very best of luck to your son.
Hello Lauren,
Tell you what think of me as your warm and loving auty who wants you to do the best you can. Now this will be difficult if at every avenue you feel like crying or cracking up under the pressure.
Sit down take a few deep breaths, drink some water and relax.
Think about your preparation and and presentation be assured this competition will be good for you.
Sam the first audition is only in front of the production team, just relax be yourself.
Melissa congratulations on all your achievements to date. Don’t worry there will be singers entering but the majority of the acts are not, some are dancers acrobats etc and Simon has already indicated he is prepared for anything.
So you do your dance, and I’m sure all will go well.
I would also like to recommend a publication to you…titled “GETTING INTO MUSIC DRAMA & DANCE.” Published by Trotman in 1998 and some nine years on is still relevant today.
I have made this recommendation to you because it is small enough to read over a few days and then you could get back into it at the section applicable to you. You should sit down and discuss this with your parents as your whole future education will be an issue of funding etc, the book is very good and offers a little insight into other areas where Dance is used in jobs.
Goodluck to everyone.

HI SAM
you will audition in front of the producers on the first occassion, but they are really nice. If you get a recall you will perform the second time in front of Piers Morgan (Editor) Amanda Holden and SIMON COWELL and a big AUDIENCE all at the same time. GOOD LUCK.
Hiya Maureen,
My Son is classically trained, still has his Soprano voice at 13, but prefers belt voice. The song he chose last time was an Anastasia track, so was not popular enough really for that type of show. He is looking at his favourite sole tracks at the moment. He has had vocal coaching for 3 years, and reached the finals of a number of comps, being placed first a few times. It is more a case of picking the “right” song, as although he does fantastic with Sonheim and thinks like that, the TV audience may not be familiar with them. A tricky one!
i think i was reali good at dancing with my crew ff we had army suits on >>!! i dnt think we got though witch was unfair as most of the dancers was ballet and gymnastics and there was a few hip hop and we havethad a fone call yet .. i think we should got though how good we was O well we will try agian .. good luck to you akll that gotthough..?…x
Also Maureen, he is not over confident(he is more the opposite, used to sing beautifully but his feet were “glued” to the floor). Taking him to regular auditions is helping his confidence and stage presence grow. Good experience whether he gets to the next round on not.

Hello A Mum,
Oh gosh this is a really awkward time them for your son, whose voice is going through the perfectly natural voice breaking period. I hope he chooses the right song. I don’t really think for a first audition he should worry about audiences this is an issue for some at the second, not the first. The first is just the auditionee and a member of the production crew. Stephen Sondheims work is familiar and having checked loads of typical male and female audition books with CD’s, Stephen Sondheims music is in the listings.
Do you think it is feasible that your son should have one or two lessons with a singing teacher before the audition, as this could help him greatly especially in tuning in to that part of his voice which is undergoing change. From Boy treble ( some call it Soprano) to what he may be after the hormones have settled. A choir master would be ideal as he will be familiar with this aspect of development from the teenage members of his choir.
Whatever you decide the very best of luck.

Hello Danny,
I should bring the disc with you just in case they have the means to play it. Most of the teams of dancers will no doubt turn up with a disc and a player.
Dancing to music in the background does help a little bit.
Paola, You have untill the 21st of Feb 2007 to apply after it will be to late. Scroll up and do this on online it is quicker than waiting for the post.

Hello Mrs Harrop,
There is a great controversy about whether chidren who are young should be encouraged to perform. (My mother always used to make me laugh as in my childhood you had to hold a license for those below the age of sixteen, you can imagine it she was French.) Neverthless, whether following through with professional training is a good thing is within the choice and domain of the family. It could also be a question of what you can afford to do.
If I were you I’d hang fire untill this audition is done. See how he comes along, you could ask to be in the room as he auditions and then you will pick up on the comments. The experience alone is always a good one, but sometimes can be daunting, nerve racking, but still this is something Michael Ball still has to this day. The controll of nerves kicks in and often eases once you start your act.
The first audition of all is one you desire and at the same time fear, but really is nothing to get upset about. This one your son has got will be done in front of a member of the production team and may not even be filmed. This is something you will have to agree to, and authorise its use. But even on this score the production company want the best and if it all goes pear shaped with very young children, I can’t imagine they’d use it to your sons detriment. You should have an option on this.
I am personally one of those classical singers most folk can’t stand as the voice is very refined, but I Still get nervous today after 37 years of singing. I twiddle with my fingers when sitting down waiting for when I should start or scratch my head in the wings before going on. But there is this great thrill to feel in performing, an unexplainable buzz, a warmth a tingle. It’s like electricity in a theatre it has just suddenly lit up, yet the audience is in the dark.
Getting back to the idea of professional training as your son is nine what are his school reports like on the academic front, are they all A’s and B’s at the moment. The reason why I ask this is sometimes setting yourself up to train someone in a specialist area like entertainment, a private school say with theatre studies or music high on its curriculum also expects its students to do well in other academic subjects. On this score you could ask at the next parents night what your sons tutors feel.
Other than that you could enrol your son with a local amateur youth theatre just for the experience, this would have a minimal cost to it and you’d get a better idea of how he copes within a competitative environment. The same goes for a local dancing school offering stage movement classes, again its minimal cost and both are serving your region. For singing I have always thought there is nothing finer than a choir irrespective of the type of voice you have for developing and teaching you to sing properly, this to has minimal costs, this could well be free if your son’s school has a choir. All in all it can be done without having to go to a specialist private school for an annual expenditure of what it would cost to join a GYM or Health club about 360 pounds a year or thereabouts.
One to one singing lessons with a choir master may even be offered if he became a member of the right choir.
Depending on where you live your library may be able to help.
So I close wishing your son the very best of luck.

Will try not to break a leg prior to performances Saturday 17th feb 2007.
hiya im alice im 14 ive entered im singin on the 27th of feb wen r ure auditions.
good luk evry1:D
I think this show is going to be agest, there is so many talented singers and a 4 year old will come on and they will let her through because shes cute, pointless
hi bob r u auditioning
so when is this going on t.v? does any one know cant wait to dance!!! haha!
Bob i think that Simon C will get pasted by the press if he puts through “talent” like that. He really is after quality – goodness he comes in for enough stick on X Factor!
A Mum when is your son’s auditon? Is it next week? If not you could get him some coaching from a drama teacher – sounds like that’s what needed, rather than singing coaching.
so people what u think britians got talent u think more ppl are going on to this or u think its about the same many people going in to the X factor?
We are having problems with the comments on this post, as there were over 400 and causing problems with the loading of the page.
It would be great if everyone could chat and post over on the forum, where we have created a new Britains Got Talent board at
http://forum.unrealitytv.co.uk/index.php?board=26.0
There is no limit on comments or topics over there and you can subscribe by email if you want to be alerted any time someone posts on a topic that interests you.
It might be an easier way for everyone to keep up to date with how all the auditions are going. Come on over and let us know how your audition has went, or feel free to ask questions from those that have already tried out.
