Arlene Phillips speaks out over sacking

arleneThe recently sacked Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips has revealed in an interview on Radio 4 that she “can’t imagine” seeing someone taking her place on the Strictly judging panel.

She was ditched by the popular BBC show because bosses wanted to add “glamour” and bring in someone younger to attract more viewers, and it seems that Alesha Dixon – who won the show in 2007 – is set to take Arlene’s place.

66 year old Arlene said in the interview, “I’ve got so many other things. Life will go on.”

The decision to axe Arlene has angered many viewers, including Emmerdale’s Amanda Donohue who blasted Strictly bosses over it.

She told Fern Britton on This Morning that, “to remove a woman of her experience is insulting to the audience.”

What do you think? Were Strictly bosses right to oust Arlene in favour of a younger judge or would you have liked to see the judging line-up stay the same?

The judging line up should stay the same. As far as glamour is concerned if half the woman of Britain looked liked Arlene at Arlenes age they would be blessed.

  2. Patricia Andrews says:

Much as I admire Alesha’s talent, I cannot imagine why the BBc has ousted Arlene. For me she adds humourand excellent judgement.
If anyone has to go, it should be Bruce who should bow out gracefully. He has had his time

Alesha Dixon knows nothing about dance except from a contestant’s viewpoint. Imagine being the professionals who will have to listen to her critique of their performances, But the BBC are not interested in any of this – just bring on the vacuous Alesha who will roar with laughter at anything and everything. Bring back Arlene with her 35 years of experience and knowledge.

I have been a Strictly addict since series 2, but the replacement of someone with Arlene’s knowledge and vivacity is a huge disappointmentand I feel almost betrayed by the BBC. Her comments are meaningful and delivered in an entertaining way. There are very few TV programmes that I enjoy because so many of them are pandering to the assumed taste of young people. What is wrong with seeing older people – or is it just the women who are deemedto be unattractive? Strictly is certainly not in need of more glamour – the setting, costumes and dance routines ensure that there is plenty on which to feast the eyes.

    PLEASE KEEP ARLENE!
