Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon opens up about her terror at the hands of a deranged stalker!
Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon has spoken out this week about the year of hell she’s endured at the hands of a deranged stalker.
While speaking exclusively to the Daily Mirror, Liz first revealed the terrifying details of her encounter with a stalker, which began five years ago.
She said, “Robert Duke was an Atomic Kitten fan and had apparently met me once and had our picture taken…
“When I started getting messages from him I had no idea who he was.
“I just thought it was some random weirdo. Then one day he started telling me he was going to rape me… and it escalated.
“When I joined Twitter in 2009 he began sending graphic sexual messages – absolute filth.
“When he sent me the photo of us together, him with his arm around me, I realised he was one of the old fans that used to follow us around.
“I started to panic, because I knew if he’d got to me once he could do it again.”
In January this year, after “a lengthy police investigation,” Duke, 34, of Lurgan, Co Armagh, pleaded guilty to harassing Liz and five others. He was given six restraining orders, banning him from contacting any of them.
The paper adds, “He was also sentenced to three years’ probation and a community sex offences programme, as well as drug and alcohol counselling.”
Brave Liz added, “I get really angry that someone was allowed to do that to me.
“Stalkers can ruin people’s lives but you have to get through it. There’s no other way to be.
“You can’t let them win.”
