Australian Princess: The Girls Take On Shakespeare!

Australian Princess

Week two of Princess Boot-camp begins with our girls moving into their very own mansion in Sydney’s dress circle suburb of Woollahra. Jackie O greets the girls as they arrive and invites them to explore their new home.

Stephanie remarks that the house has everything you could possibly want in a mansion, except a Prince! But the girls get a huge shock when Jackie leads them into the main bedroom – already ensconced there is Jean Broke-Smith! Jean informs the girls that she will be living with them 24/7 to make sure they do not waste a minute of their training! Kylie is horrified. Having Jean Broke-Smith in the next bedroom will be worse than Big Brother, in fact it will be more like Big Mother!

In this episode, the girls undergo a complete physical make-over, hair, make-up and clothes. They meet their own personal Princess Stylist, designer Alex Zehntner who advises each girl on the best style to suit their shape and colouring. Meanwhile, Jean advises them on the appropriate dress for a Princess, ugg boots, midriff tops and ripped jeans are consigned to the bin. Face and tongue piercings are definitely a no-no, much to Kylie and Carolyn’s concern. Do they keep their piercings and risk the ire of Jean and possibly lose their places in Princess Boot-camp? Or do they remove them and risk losing their personality?

Then it’s off to Nicole Kidman’s eyebrow artist, Sharon Lea to get the perfect eyebrows and make-up, as well as hair makeovers all round. Our Goth loses her black locks (not without some tears) and 30 year old Leanne loses her pony tail.

On their first night in the house, Jean goes out. Of course the alcohol is opened, the music is turned up very loud and it is definitely party time for the wannabe princesses. And as the alcohol flowed, secrets are revealed in the Diary Room. Already lines between the girls are being drawn.

Four of the girls short-sheet Jean’s bed! Of course when Jean finds out she hits the roof, banning alcohol and demanding that the girls behave themselves, or else!

In the first challenge of the week the girls are given $1,000 each to spend at Esprit, the catch is that they have just ten minutes to select outfits appropriate for their new life as Princesses-in-training. Carla ends up in tears, it has been years since she has worn any colour but black and she is not sure that she is ready to cope with the change.

Two winners emerge and are rewarded with a ‘Princess’ magazine shoot to feature in Women’s Day. The rest of the girls head home with Paul to learn a very important practical skill, how to iron.

With the girls appearances totally made-over, it’s time to work on their voices. Who better to call on but voice coach, Professor John Higgins? John has worked with actors and celebrities around the world, including the international cast on the recent Superman movie.

At the end of the lesson Paul Burrell and Professor Higgins announce the week’s elimination challenge. In their very first public appearance, the girls must present a package from Shakespeare to an audience of future leaders of Australian industry. What the girls don’t find out until they arrive is that their audience is made up of teenage boys from St Andrews Cathedral School. The very same audience, in fact, that the Queen addressed earlier in the year when she was in Australia for the Commonwealth Games.

Some of the girls struggle with Shakespeare’s language and some do surprisingly well, then it’s Kylie’s turn and she introduces herself with “My name is Kylie Booby” and the audience of teenage boys (a,d Paul!) can’t control their laughter as Kylie stands at the lectern.

This episode will air on ITV2 on Wed 28th Feb, 8pm
