Big Brother 2012 race row as Deana Uppal accuses Chris James of being racist

It’s been reported today that Big Brother housemate Deana Uppal has accused evicted housemate Chris James of disliking her because she’s Indian.

In a conversation with fellow housemates Luke A and Lydia, Deana claimed that in the ten days she and Chris had shared the house, he continually “blanked” her.

She added, “Chris hasn’t spoken to me at all and he’s spoken to everybody else.

“I’ve not done anything for him to not like me. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s because… you know? You know what I mean?”

Lydia nodded and replied, “Yeah.”

The Daily Star reports that in saying that, Deana was implying Chris was being racist.

The paper adds, “So far she has not complained to BB bosses about Chris’s behaviour, and no action has been taken by telly chiefs.”

However, given that Chris left last night, I guess it won’t be an issue now.

But as Deana continued to explain how she felt about Chris, she added, “I grew up in an area where it was all English people.

“I grew up in a small tiny village where me and my mum were the only Indians.

“All through primary school there was racism, though it was only kids. I think my mum was more upset by racism than me.

“In high school there were quite a lot of people that didn’t like me. This was from other Indian girls so I can’t say this was racism.”

Big Brother bosses are of course very strict over issues relating to alleged racism and have even banned housemates from mimicking foreign accents.

  1. Johnny Uppal says:

Nah ! I do not think he is raceist at all …. this conception is made by seeing him after being evicted although one can make a infrence by his personalty traits. You even said “it will be boring without Chris” … lets not play the race card Deana …. the experience of you growing up in a small village can be explained to others by asking them to imagine that they lived in Varsey ..the little village in “The League of Gentlemen” and they have to go to trhe local shop ..for local people…we will not have any trouble here ! …..
