Jodi Albert has admitted that reuniting with her bandmates for The Big Reunion has been a very cathartic experience for her.
The former Hollyoaks actress will make her debut on the ITV2 show when it airs on ITV2 this evening and she’s found performing with her old pals to be ‘like therapy’ over the past few months.
Jodi has had a jam packed schedule of late and in between travelling to Australia to support her husband Kian Egan while he appeared on – and eventually won – I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here, she’s been busy forging links with the other Girl Thing members and preparing for the new series of the reality TV show.
Jodi gave an interview on Lorraine earlier today and revealed that she has loved spending time with Anika Bostelaar, Linzi Martin, Michelle Barber and Nikki Harrington. The band split in 2001 and apparently things didn’t end well for the girls. So they’ve enjoyed reforming and working through all their past issues.
Jodi said: “When Girl Thing ended, it ended quite abruptly for us and we all ran from it and certainly for me, we kind of blocked it all out. So actually, revisiting it has been a bit like therapy.”
In the decade that followed the ladies started families, settled down, got married and moved on with their careers and Jodi said those life experiences helped them to bond and reconnect when they met again. She said:
“I think for us now, we’re all mums and seeing each other 14 years later and talking… at first we were like, ‘how many kids do you have?!'”
Nikki (who appeared on Lorraine via a video link from LA) echoed Jodi’s sentiments, although revealing that she’d initially had reservations about getting back together with the band for The Big Reunion.
The five singers will join boyband supergroup 5th Story, R&B band Damage, A1, newly-formed boy band and Michael Jackson’s nephews 3T when the series kicks off tonight.
They were most excited about meeting the latter, most because of their family links and Linzi said:
“We’re kind of starstruck. I think all the bands are star struck! They’re fighting over towels in rehearsal!”
Jodi took to Twitter this evening to thank fans for all their support in the lead up to the new series and she posted on the micro blogging website saying:
“Just wanna say a big thank you to you lovely fans for always supporting everything I do.. I hope you all enjoy #BigReunion2014 tonight!Luv u”
Her hubby Kian added:
“Only a few hrs to go before @JodiAlbert will be on @BigReunionITV telling there Girl Thing Story! Can’t wait. Tune in @itv2 9pm”
“@BigReunionITV @GirlThing2014 and my missus @JodiAlbert so fricking excited. @itv2 9pm tune in it will be explosive!”
