Elaine played Lynn Slater in the popular soap Eastenders until last year. She was forced to leave the cast in 2004 following allegations of drunken behaviour.

Not long afterwards Elaine gave birth to her son James Garrett Manuel, four weeks prematurely in a London hospital. He was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
