Britain’s Got Talent Gets A Twitter Stream

ITV are getting very Internet-friendly with a new Twitter stream for Britain’s Got Talent fans.

If you’ve never heard of Twitter before, it’s a fairly new web service that allows people to share little snippets of their lives with friends and family. You can even update your Twitter page from your mobile phone.

All this is ideally suited to sharing updates about the programme with fans of Britain’s Got Talent. If you visit the BGT Twitter page, you’ll see the latest information about where you can see show contestants, and little reminders about contestants you might have missed.

It comes on the same day ITV launch a similar Twitter channel for upcoming information about their shows to share with savvy bloggers like me and other media types.

In an era where ITV have come under serious fire, it’s nice to see that there’s a posse within those corporate corridors that understands the role the Internet will play in publicising TV shows in future. As I said to one of the publicists today, it would be a great new step to acknowledge blogs writing about BGT in the Twitter stream as well. ITV have a nice lead in this area over the other terrestrial channels, and it would be nice to point fans to discussions – good and bad – on independent sites so that they can follow the conversation.

Anyway, my applause to ITV’s web evangelists for breaking new ground. They now have an arsenal of online sources, including YouTube, MySpace, Bebo(?) and now Twitter for helping fans to get their BGT fix anywhere on the ‘net.

Shameless self-promotion: You can follow my personal Twitter feed now, and maybe in the near future we’ll create a Twitter account for Unreality TV as a way for people to stay up-to-date with us!
