Britain’s Got Talent’s David Walliams wants to become a full time writer and check out this HILARIOUS video with Ant & Dec!
David Walliams is ready to leave the world of acting, presenting and celebrity behind him and become a full time writer.
The Little Britain star has become known as a popular author, with his autobiography Camp David becoming a best seller last year and his children’s novels The Boy In The Dress, Mr Stink, Billionaire Boy, Gangsta Granny and Ratburger becoming hits all around the world.
In an new interview the dad to be revealed that he finds being a writer a more rewarding career than anything else he turns his hand to and in a talk at London’s Southbank Centre he said:
“As I’ve got older I’ve realised that writing is actually a lot of the time more creative than performing.
“You’re creating a world and creating characters and I grew to really love writing.”
The comedian and actor is currently working on Britain’s Got Talent, where he joins Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon on the judging panel. He admitted that at first he wasn’t sure he would be good at writing, but now he’s fallen in love with it and added:
“I saw it as something that wasn’t just a means to an end but it was actually the main job.
“Sometimes I think I’d quite like not to be on TV anymore and just write books.”
Walliams has spoken many times of his love of Roald Dahl books and last year fronted a documentary about the late children’s author. He revealed that the novels were his way of escaping life as a child and that his love of reading began many years ago, when he picked up Charlie and The Chocolate Factory for the first time.
He said: “My childhood was tragic and friendless. I think at some point most of us feel like an outsider or like we are not the most popular person at school.
“I always think I’m the lead character in a way whether it’s a boy or a girl. I have felt that way.
“When I was a kid there was no internet, videos and computer games were limited.
“I wasn’t a keen reader but the first book I read was Charlie and the chocolate factory.
“Once you find what you like to read that often starts you off. Roald Dahl was the main author I read.”
David isn’t shying away from TV though, thankfully and despite his love of penning books he is still going to remain in the public eye….for now.
Tonight Walliams will appear on the new series of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and he sounded pretty excited last night when he tweeted:
“I’m so excited that I’ll be the guest announcer on @antanddec ‘s Takeaway on ITV tomorrow night. @robbiewilliams is the star guest!”
