Former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has told Gaydar Radio listeners that she thinks marriage is “a bond for life” despite the fact that she divorced her unfaithful husband Ashley Cole.

She said, “Marriage is far more than a man and a woman, you know. It’s a bond for life.”

Hence the title of this article because as fans of Friends will know, Phoebe once stated that Ross was Rachel’s lobster; a mate for life. However, there’s been some heated debate on t’interweb, with some people claiming lobsters don’t in fact mate for life. Yup, it’s an important issue.

But back to Cheryl, she went on to say that regardless of your gender or sexuality, marriage is, or should be, a public demonstration of your commitment to another person.

She said, “What marriage stands for is that you love that person.You want to commit yourself to that person forever…

“All the rights that a marriage gives you, why should the fact that you are attracted to the same sex make that any different?

“It makes no sense to me. The same relationship, the same beliefs … It’s crazy.

“I don’t understand why it’s even a big deal!”

There is of course currently much debate about whether same sex marriages can be, or should be, sanctioned by the Church of England.

However, it wasn’t all serious debate and Cheryl mentioned that her pet Chihuahua, Buster, may well be gay.

She said, “He likes male company – he’s just not interested in the females.”
